#Any ideas on stuff I could work on in my
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
2nd monitor perhaps, but if you're just gaming (not streaming or work) then don't bother - your setup is super clean
i agree but i do think theres stuff to improve on
nah i dont just game, tbh part of me wants an oled monitor since this one is super small anyways, my monitor stand has a 2nd arm i took off
though im lowkey undecided if an oled monitor is worth it
but i think id want the samsung odyssey g6
I just upgraded to a 4K QD OLED - it's sooo worth it. Easily the most impactful upgrade of my setup
For context, my monitor progression has been like this:
24 in 1080p 60hz TN -> 27 in 1440p 144hz IPS -> 32 in 4k 120hz mini LED -> 32 in 4k QD OLED
only thing I would change is the monitors otherwise its perfect
either a big ultrawide or multiple smaller
ones
the jump from 1440p IPS to 4k OLED was even bigger than my upgrade from 1080 to 1440
ultrawide would look fantastic on that setup
or something like this:
it looks a bit empty with 1 "small" monitor
I tend to mix between competitive games and non competitive or general stuff on my pc so I believe a 27inch oled with the older monitor being put horizontal would be sick but the screen difference might look really bad after
I think the issue is every game I play other than league of legends basically don’t support ultra wide
It wouldn’t really ever get used much
I do have a 5060ti so I have the gpu to handle it, I was considering it with the odyssey g8
You can also get a second monitor or upgrade and put your current as the second monitor
Ultrawide comes with tradeoffs
Ultrawide 1440p is halfway between regular 1440p and 4k so
I was imagining this configuration
Yea that works
Would make the whole thing look more complete and give you more monitors to watch stuff etc
Do they make like super cheap 1080p 30-60fps monitors that are oled? Cause I’d replace my main monitor completely with one of those after too so the screens don’t look weird together
A screen for terraria wiki and the other for terraria
Peak
Yeah
A lot of games also crash when I tab
Some just really don’t like it
Also I was thinking I could even get white rustoleom paint and paint my monitor white
It was look sick if it was white too right?
Never painted a monitor but white goes well in your setup
That reminds me, should I try and do something about my mic just standing there, it’s lowkey far ish and awkward looking
I could prob paint that after too
This guy has an arm for it
That fits right under the monitor
So he can pull it out and tuck it back
That’s actually really nice, if I could somehow attach that to my monitor arm so it’s above and not below it was lowkey be super sick
Yeah that’s sick I’d totally do something like that
Yeah it is
I could imagine that working pretty well in my setup tho
Also one thing that bothers me a lot is the inside of my pc
You think there’s a way to have like a 180 degree cable for the cable my gpu uses? I checked online but didn’t seem to find much
Ah
You can buy cable extensions
That are tighter than that
Im p sure
Or just buy an rgb strimmer cable
So that cable doesnt stick out like a sore thumb because of the rgb
I gotta say I really don’t like the rgb cables tbh
Idk if its weird that I don’t but it just looks annoying imo
not weird
not everyone likes rgb
me personally I want to feel like im in a christmas tree but thats not everyone
Nah I totally get that I love that stuff but I mean in a pc I just don’t like the shutting down of beautiful components cause of lights but instead outside the pc
I found this but ngl I don’t have a high opinion of the guys who make it cause of experience with other products
I'd start asking around in the buildadvice channels I dont know that much I built my first rig a week ago lol
Lmao fair enough
Ngl that’s a crazy ass first build bro 😭
😭 yeah no shit
I shook with bad ones lmao
took my cpu out about 3 times to check for damage or bent pins because I was afraid I put it in wrong
Tbh it never stopped for me
Lowkey understandable
Tbh tho people over react over a bent pin
It’s pretty easy to fix
Or even a pin that breaks off
Just gets donator pin lmao
the thing is I let one side of the cpu fall into place about 1 centimeter above the pins and after a while I got scared I broke something so I took it out again
Ah yeah fair
Tbh one thing I learnt with pc building was everything is gonna feel like you’re somehow breaking it
It’s mad goofy
I felt pretty confident until I had to unbox the mobo and I could not for the life of me figure out how to hold that thing without breaking stuff
Like why does putting in ram sticks or a gpu feel that bad 😭
TRUE
SAMEEEE HAHA
my ram was stubborn I had to do some gymnastics to get the sticks in
Ngl I realised I can hold it however I want and stopped caring but yeah just from the sides is ideal
also the gpu is a nightmare to put in for the first time
I swear that be every component tho 😭
same with the SSD
Especially me I have a hard time with the angles I need to put my body cause I’m a bodybuilder so the muscle in the way is mad awkward
Ssds still terrorise me
M.2 ones
"put the ssd in at a 45 degree angle it will be fine" me trying to get that thing in right without applying to much force for 30 minutes
Lmao exactly
Mine was completely bending but apparently that’s fine I guess
Also ngl I NEED pc fans mine are mad ugly
Nah I know 😭
Tbh I just ain’t sure what I wanna get
Issue is some fans be super damn expensive and I also wanna keep a theme
My gpu has lines of rgb and my ram too so something like the old lian li fans design would be sick
there are fans that look like lian li fans but are way cheaper
I don’t mean the new ones tho the infinity mirror and stuff ain’t for me
I mean this one
These aren’t as pricy and I like them quite a bit, mild compliant that the rgb is on one side only but as long as I get the proper reverse fans in the right places it would look sick I think, would keep that white and silver theme going well too ngl
yeah im aware lmao i been doing this for a few years 😭 just unsure what i want tbh
@ancient umbra this is a really nice setup for your desk! Could you tell me what the back panel wall is and the desk?
By far one of the best setups I've ever seen. Got some RGB in there but not too much. Clean, and minimal. 100% stealing this design, but going to add more plants. Love the backdrop and lighting too
those are the panels i used
i stuck them onto a panel of mdf though so i could detach and re attach it whenever i want, so i can clean and stuff
this is the light that goes around it
for the panels always turn a panel every time u stick it so the pattern repeats less, basically making it like a checker board
2 of those alex ones for the drawers, a lot of gaming setups use them
ALEX storage unit, white, 141/8x271/2" A clean look that’s easy to like and mix with other styles, either supporting a desk or standing alone. The back is finished so you can place it in the middle of the room – all sides are just as beautiful. You can mount the door to open from the right or left.
those three are the same but different versions based off taste
then u need the top part
12.4K likes, 66 comments. “This is the most popular IKEA desk combo, and it’s actually super simple. You just need an Alex drawer, a solid kitchen countertop, and either another Alex or two Adil legs. But don’t mix this up with the full Alex desk set — that top won’t hold up if you’ve got a heavier setup with multiple monitors or a P...
for the desk follow this vid tho
this guy explains it well
mine is 2 meters long btw
lmao ty bro, gl on that then, personally i really hate plants in setups tho
@ancient umbra you're the best ty
no worries gang, message me if u got any other questions
Do you have anything on the underside of the desk, in the middle, to give it support and prevent sag?
nope, the table is supposed to have a leg in the middle to do that but im risking it and not putting it for aesthetics
cause its lowkey ugly
And forgive me for dumb questions, but how do you attach the MDF to the wall to make it removable?
Honestly if you center a big ultra wide on that backdrop it’ll look insane
Add a white low profile mic arm that swivels under the monitor
You can get one of those headset holding mounts that go under your desk if you want a cleaner option
And a Velcro strap to hold the bundled wire behind your monitor mount pole 👀
I think so, yeah. I'm going with darker wood top and grey or black white drawers
I'm not sure how well the backlight will illuminate black tiles though
Sexy now you’re getting into my setups theme 👍💥
Send pics of your setup 👀
I am just now ordering parts for this. Got lights, tiles, big foam board (thin PVC shell) to put tiles onto (I rent and want to make it easy to move) , strut channels for support underneath
Honestly there’s never an easy to move setup but for your case having a big board with them all attached would be smart
I don't mean to hijack the thread, so I apologize if that's how it seems.
I got the idea from @ancient umbra, they're a smart cookie.
The only real problem is that the space I'm putting the desk in right now is only 78", so if I want to add more tiles later I would need to somehow add 1 ft to the board lol
The desk would be 74", tile wall 72" as of now
Like this, I didn’t wanna put it on my wall and not be able to ever paint my wall (which I plan to do) or even if I want to clean or dust it properly
They’re called French cleats (the pic is from Google ain’t my wall)
Tbh im not sure what i wanna do with that yet, but yeah a monitor that’s ultra wide would look super crazy but tbh i dont like it in the practical sense, id much prefer a 2 monitor config i can use to eventually start streaming with, also ultra wide support is terrible on most games i like
Yeah, art3d on Amazon, they got a lot of colors from what I remember
Yeah I agree, I personally figured out how to move everything onto my desk charging wise so only unplug 1 wire and I can literally move my setup across the room
I have some 3x6' half inch thick foam board that I was planning on attaching the tiles to, and just nailing or screwing in the corners into the wall
That way when I move I can take it all down in one piece and I won't be ripping up the wall with sticky tape stuff
That could work too yeah
Depends a lot on the foam type
U can stick the panels with vhb (double sided tape from from 3M)
Yeah exactly
Same reason why I did mine like that
Bruhhhh these aren't 12" like the listing says 😭
So now my board is cut to 36" x72" but these will measure 35.433"x70.866"
Idk inches but it’s 30x30cm for me
Even measured the panels when I got them
I fixed them stupid ahh fans
Ngl looks crazy good I really like it, considering the price point I was able to do that at what an upgrade, they lowkey mad quiet too compared to the others I had
i did it bro, my dumbass bought an ultrawide, u put the idea in my head and i couldnt get it out of my head
arrives soon
bought the samsung odyssey g8 34inch oled
rip wallet 😭
Ngl you wont regret it
I went ultrawide
And never looked back
Shit is so immersive
It looks very clean too
Especially in your setup
Depending on what games you play its also a huge buff
Only a select few esports games dont support it
And give you black bars
That's the monitor I have, its great
yeah i just saw a vid of ultrawide league of legends
unlocking my camera is no longer a thing
tbf tho its very few games and a lot of then have mods to do it anyways
Mine is 6 years old and still kicking gonna upgrade at some point
Fair
What u looking into?
atm Im not looking for anything I dont wanna spend money on a monitor atm
Yk what, totally fair
Can’t blame u
I dropped a kidney, arm, leg and part of my liver to buy this damn monitor 😭 so I get it
Idk, I just got an ultrawide, and while it's the same size as the 2x 27" monitors I'm replacing, it feels BIG on the karlby desk. I paid attention to one monitor more than the other, and I still find myself head turned left instead of looking dead on.
edit: just realized your UW is smaller. This one is 49" :x maybe I need a 30something" ultrawide
Yea 49" is ULTRA ultrawide
Do you like the gpu mount? I wanted to get one to make my gpu vertical too
Lmao no worries, ty tho
do not recommend. It started delaminating 2.5 days in
also mb i aint see this
but yeah
its quite nice
i ended up getting a diff one amazon had a hard time delivering so i just got the LG UltraGear OLED 34GS95QE
its phenomenal
i got it bro
I need some sort of monitor arm for it tho
The stand is massive and a pain in the ass
Also don’t mind the cables my damn power bar decided to die on me after I set it up lmaoo
I really like the ARES wing monitor arm! It's solid and doesn't sag!
i was looking at this one
single rotation is perfect i dont actually need an arm at this monitor size
like realistically what am i moving yk? its so bit and perfect viewing angles no point
I guess it's better for a bigger monitor, I don't know. This is my first monitor arm, but I love it. I keep my mic arm behind the monitor, and I have to move the monitor to extend it out underneath. It's also really handy to be able to move the monitor if I need to get behind my PC. If I extend it out like I did in the second pic then I can lie in bed and watch YouTube or something.
It was super easy to adjust height and tilt, and it just stays where I set it. My old monitor stand could not do that, even if it just sat there it would sag eventually.
(I have not set up the backdrop yet. Just been busy lol)
it looks super nice and comfy actually
i just prefer my monitor close as possible to the wall
Enjoy man. LG is good too 👍
Yeah lg and Samsung are the same tbh
Apple buys their screens especially pro models from them
I gotta say it looks phenomenal genuinely nuts, it completely revived my need to play games 24/7
Ight I set it up what u think?
Looks super clean! I like it!
