I have no rights to say something with the setup i have but, in my eyes maybe some soft light and a big mousepad (those where it covers the whole desk) better scratching and dirtying a cheap mousepad than a desk no ?

I do have one but i found it to be a bit ugly. Might buy a purple/white ( @hushed shale ) mousepad and put my glass one on top. I am also gonna be picking up a walnut desktop soon

Oh then soft light i guess ? Because it's like the only source of light you have is a bit of decoration, monitor light (for the night if u do use it in the night)
