did it not get display while plugged in the top slot but it works in the bottom slot?

i reseated the gpu like 7 times at this point, it happens more often if i tap on my pc case

#

monitor loses signal not mobo

cunning tundra
#

then the monitor is the source of the issue and the slot placement didn't affect display?

sick plinth
#

i havent got into detail so

cunning tundra
#

did you use the same cable with the old monitor? a faulty cable can be a source of display issues

sick plinth
#

there was once i tried to pull the gpu out hard without pushing down the pcie retention, i eventually realised that and removed my gpu without ripping the retention. right now the pcie retention is loose af and i think it may be the fault

the graphics card itself can't be securely seated in that slot, but using a riser cable should be a viable work around given no pressure is put on the slot with a cable

sick plinth
#

if i use a riser calbe, dont i need to use a verticle mount?

the clip itself isn't physically snapped. you could perhaps try to reset the clip into the end of the slot

yeah i thought about removing the pcie retention, never tried to take it out so i will attempt it later on

cunning tundra
sick plinth
#

will do

cunning tundra
#

the riser cable is a work around if it turns out the clip can't be fixed

sick plinth
#

can i update you later on in a dm, doing this alone can be hard lol

cunning tundra
#

that's your main problem

sick plinth
#

yea i will focus on the retention problem

#

i booked a rma appointment for my gpu and its on wednesday, the gpu is used and may be alright now shouldi still go so they can inspect it

#

its a service center

cunning tundra
#

but faulty physical connection is a separate problem that will always affect functional products too

sick plinth
#

alright thanks alot

#

i thought it was the gpu so i panicked and made an appointment

#

forums were like you dont need the retention clip and i removed it and stuff

cunning tundra
#

if you're going to some sort of service center already, you should call ahead and ask if they can offer help with the PCIe slot too. IF it turns out doing yourself isn't feasible

cunning tundra
#

you didn't have display issues in terms of the signal being cut off with the bottom slot right?

sick plinth
#

i connected the bottom slot like last night so i need more time to observe

#

cus i suspected the pcie retention was the problem very late

cunning tundra
#

don't use games to test it of course

#

but try tapping the case again

#

if nothing happens, then you're correct about the PCIe retention clip being the source of the issue

sick plinth
#

oh yeah i did that, the monitor went blank for a few seconds and then came back a few seconds later, didnt happen with the first slot

#

and then i tapped it again, nothing much, i hit the table with my fist, tap the case tilt it

#

i didnt shake it i tapped it mb

#

nobody shakes their build

cunning tundra
#

so the bottom slot didn't experience display cutting out with the case being touched?

sick plinth
#

but thething is with the first slot, it loses signal even if theres no movement on the pc

#

sometimes it just loses signal randomly during a game while having a discord call

#

happened 3 times

sick plinth
#

thats less than 24 hours ago

#

i need some time till i can determine if its ok

cunning tundra
#

I see

#

hopefully it is just a matter of replacing the GPU

sick plinth
#

yea

#

thats what i was hoping for

cunning tundra
#

still ask the service center about the retention clip though

sick plinth
#

because i cant rma my mobo

sick plinth
cunning tundra
#

good luck

sick plinth
#

rma department told me their technicians are having lunch FeelsBadMan

#

theyll call me back they say

sick plinth
#

@cunning tundra Ok so uh I took a picture of the retention clip

#

You think it’s removable?
