i pray this is out of state and not in usd 😭
It's still not very cool even if you are a big gay
oh that is USD
big gay (complimentary)
ivy?
no difference in state vs out of state
Private school
god
considered a "hidden ivy" just below an ivy in most metrics
The most I know somebody paid for for uni was 30k but that was because they were a foreign student
But 70k????
When I went to private uni over a decade ago it was about 50k/year before scholarships
I paid 50k a year
glad to see not everyone there is scummy
With financial aid may I add
After we begged for more
But nope
They assume that because my parents did well that I’m somehow Elon musk and Can afford that
I didnt get any because my parents made too much 🙃
Yep
im sure there are lot of great people that work at LMG
it isnt even like they make that much
but over 75k combined income? GET FUCKED DUDE
The whole financial aid based off parental income thing is heinous
Being a plumber sounds sick asf rn
I'm assuming the vast majority are not. It just takes a few bad apples in key spots to ruin everything.
Dude don't even get me started
imagine going to HR and silently got labeled as rat behind your back
I had to send several emails to the government just to say that I don't live with my parents and that I am literally not even getting anything from them education wise
imagine thinking HR is there to help you
And they still said maybe
that was your first mistake
HR IS NEVER YOUR FRIEND
I mean even if you know they aren’t, calling someone a rat definitely isn’t the way to go
Especially when it’s already reached HR
it's still fucked tho that Yvonne is the head of HR when she's Co founder and Co head of the company
I’d rather it be Yvonne than linus
That's just straight ethically wrong
Fwiw
Lmao I don't think linus would've gotten an HR
He would've probably thought it was useless
Is that Elon Musk and black panther on the right side
But yeah, to werdnas point, HR is not there to protect employees. It’s there to protect the company
Also is coming out the James Strieb is a jordan Peterson fan?
I thought they had an outside HR company? In that case Yvonne would be managing the busness relationship. HR is also more than complaints they also handle job criteria and recrutiing. As an owner you would want some hand in that process.
They do.
I mean unsubstantiated but the whole comment on "are you gonna stand there or are you gonna dance" is bad
thats why im abit skeptical on her "putting her foot down" on that video they posted
yes 😄
didn't expect that from black panther honestly
can't see why though
Does anyone have the reddit comment where someone transcribed the LTT meeting after Madison was fired
imagine being a woman working at a company and someone left due to SA/SH allegations. imagine then hearing that comment in a meeting about that departure from a higher up in the company. how tf is that supposed to make u feel?
first I can't link the comment to sa/sh and second it's the same as "imagine being blind and hearing a blind joke" reasoning to me. Not agree that only blind ppl can make blind jokes, only gay ppl can make gay jokes, etc
Can't see why making a sexual comment is bad when he's one of the higher up and probably knows why there was a HR meeting?
It's literally straight up fucking bad taste
I can't link dancing to sexual content, sorry.
And also why? It's an HR meeting
how is this so hard to understand?
Can't link?? He just fucking said are you gonna dance or just stand there???
yes
Idk if you're being intentionally dense or trolling
it's hella inappropiate comment given the conext of the meeting
honestly, i dont think they are trolling. i've had a lot of arguments with ppl here about this point and they were saying the same things about this person is
If I can't see as sexual someone dancing I can't agree to it being bad.
Btw how did linus do the talk?
linus's audio sounds so bad it seems he's on a laptop call
So the implication that dancing on a table means either strip dancing never got into your mind?
why would it?
Because that's literally what james implied
It's not a laptop call. It's in a room
Wth
is that public info?
Wat
what other context can u interpret that as. James is saying that like he is talking to a dancer. what other dancer would he be talking about
Dancers don't dance on tables
to me it sounds like linus is on laptop and the rest are watching it in the room, given how bad linus audio looks to me
that's also true, i forgot the exact quote, but a lot of ppl (rightfully) would see that as sexual. even if James didnt mean it like that (massive benefit of the doubt), its an extremely bad take
You gonna dance on that table, or just stand on it?
That's literally the only thing you can take from that
how tf are u supposed to interpret that aside from it being sexual? Is James just sayting,"Hey u should do the macerena on a table'????
There's no other implication
any updates?
Nope
what
and im tired af of ppl saying otherwise
It's a waiting game now on what comes of the allegations
all i know is that madison got SA'd and thst linus let his feelings fuck the review, also they fucked up by auctioning the monoblock
People don't just randomly bullshit a SA allegation
it makes sense it's a laptop unless talks happen with the person standing on top of the table
SA? Anything pop up but the thread?
tbf lots of shit happens today
Are you fucking for real?
im not defending LMG but still
It was an in-person meeting, there was no laptop.
come at me, r u going to say that James wasnt saying a sexual reference too?
This has been well established, the video portion is only to provide a visual so it isn't a blank screen.
i literally have no clue whats going on
so linus was standing up on top of a table
can someone say ehst happenned in the meeting
watch the video and read the transcript here @merry fern
I dont have 1min+ attention span anymore
at least without subway servers or family guy
also sry for coming at u like that, im kinda pissed atm
not explicitly, we would have to ask him if it was implicit
bro im done with u. im sry

sorry for being logical and use the meaning of words
Actually looks like the opposite
See this
I stand corrected then
it's like the 5th post down
somewhere in the comments
why should James' politics matter either way
ah yeah fuck
Shows you what type of people are
Someone's "politics" gives you an idea of their perspective
Are you gonna tell me that if I was a great guy but voted for Trump my politics don't matter?
Being a great guy is more important to me
How you treat people is more important than how you vote; but how you vote does "colour in" who you are
i cant see any sex joke in the transcript
you gonna dance on that table or stand on it
(speaker 2, James)You gonna dance on that table, or just stand on it? Is the thing people are complaining about
I personally have a hard time considering that a sex joke
me too tbh
I really don't think it's that bad
more of a "sexual joke"
out of context that is barely a sex joke.
Also consider that it's possible he had no idea what Linus was talking about
It's supposed to refer to him stripping
It’s not that bad though. Obviously a bad time, but it was making light after a hard conversation
but if the meeting was about sexual harassment then that changes it up a little
when it was made between two guys who are obviously very close on a personal level, and who would be surprised to watch Linus dacing on a table
I know I wouldnt be surprised to see it
im imagining lie-nus strippin rn 💀
Unless you know what it's about, there's know way to get this from only what Linus is saying.
if it was allowed on yt he would do it imho for a gag
right
Bad idea opening the transcripts to the world lol.
Everyone who's nitpicky and easily offended will have an issue with it one way or another.
Even taken completely out of context.
they didnt mean to open it
an employee leaked it
maybe James didnt know about it, but i have a hard time believing such a high level employee wasnt aware of the situation
6 months ago and all the comments are bashing the leaker
im thinking immediately of the vet reacting to the women saying "we're all vets"
Fire his ass. Lol
LMG is big, but not that big where he would be oblivious to it
Depends on the amount of time it took between when Maddy left and when the meeting was called
I mean, they dont know who it was
It's possible that it was like, the same day.
fair
also possible the meeting is actually completely unrelated
Anyways, very bad situation. But that comment on its own does not mean much imo
they make no mention of anything specific at all
It was called the next day after she left as an emergency in-person meeting at a time when people were working from home due to COVID lockdowns.
i bet this is more active than any other channel
Oh yeah especially if WFH is a thing here, I can totally see James not knowing about the situation before hand.
i still dont get how the comment wasnt a sexual comment though. it clearly refers to stripping and it has no place in an HR meeting (it was brought up in the video in that they held the meeting to deal with some sort of harrassment claims)
It wouldn't manner honestly, that type of joke isn't appropriate at that type of meeting - period.
I mean, sexual or not it sounded harmless enough. Although it shouldn’t have been made in the first place, definitely lack of judgment on his part
how do you know? for all you know linus was already standing on a table for the meeting
and loves to do stupid shit
saying it is sexual is a stretch
so that's more plausiible than it being a sexual comment?
Not really, to be honest
Realistically, appropriateness is a two way street, the person that makes the comment, and how others around them feel about the comment. I don't think any of us can really say to what extent their relationship would make this normal banter between them and the others around them
I'd disagree if this type of behaviour was typical for many in the office
so much this
stripping isn't sexual, words by the #1 genius in buildapc discord
he never said strip
he said dance.
Dancing is something common for people to do on tables lol, even in a non-sexual sense
As someone who's never been to a strip club or w/e. I totally read it as just dancing on a table - like I've done before without taking my clothes off. But honestly any joke in a meeting like that is sorta uncalled for.
I remember people doing that shit in high school
exotic dancer vs stripper debate time
Not in my life
In meetings?
but at a workplace in a meeting dealing with allegations of some sort (the meeting was clearly about some type of allegations)
reminds me when i was like 2nd grade dancing on a table when it broke and i broke my femur
I mean, like I said I am assuming he was standing on a table for the meeting, because that seems incredibly likely based on the context
that hurt
damnnnnn
they thought I broke my femur at one point
Also James's tone is clearly implying something more than "dance"
that shit SUCKS
In anycase it was clearly innapropriate
im honestly shocked by this comment
i broke my femur 2 times
they kept checking for blood from it shattering
second time was from a 2 story fall
but that doesn't mean that disciplinary action is appropriate
i was a pretty wild ass kid
Even if it was inappropriate, I don't think anything should be done about this particular instance
i landed safely (barely though) but broke some bone near/in my kbee and my femur
knee*
Actual punishments are typically done for egregious behavior or a pattern of out-of-line behavior
aside from having sensitivity trainings or something along that lines, Im not saying that James needs to lose his job just because of those comments. but it was hella inappropiate
Well in sexual harassment cases the power dynamic is relevant and James has less power than Linus and Linus didn't even respond to the comment
Standing on tables is something people rarely do but most people who do stand on a table will dance.. its just one of them things
A one off joke you said at the wrong time shouldn't land you in administrative leave or anything, but if you consistently do that then maybe it would be best to do something about that
i'vve had comments about me in my workplace and i dont report it or try and get ppl in trouble, that doesnt make those comments right or appropiate though
Well particularly if inappropriate jokes are normalised in the office
i feel like an odd one out in this convo tbh
if Linus is serious about having a "safe and inclusive" work environment, then that shit should change
The existence of this comment doesn't, in my view, change how genuine Linus's statements are
it's hard to find a balance betweeen happy hr and a good workplace
i do too, i feel like im going insane
People at work just want to be able to have some fun sometimes.. jokes are usually harmless but unfortunately not everyone agrees on what is funny.
especially post 2020
I mean, for all we know, Linus did talk to James about the joke afterwards
at the expense of who?
Like there's only so many conclusions we can draw from this video
It's also possible that Linus didn't hear it at all
fair, im more pissed at how Linus handled the allegations and the fact that he now hired a third party investigator. the comments are tip of the iceberg. but that comment imho is foul but that specifically isnt on Linus
And sometimes it's not the time for 'fun' or jokes - such as an emergency HR meeting (or any HR meeting really).
As respectfully as possible, why the hell are you pissed that a third party investigator has been hired?
Would you rather they conduct an internal investigation?
he now hired one instead of doing it when Madison first came to management
"we investigated ourselves and found we did nothing wrong"
This joke was at Linus's expense
that investigation should of been done years ago
You don't hire a third party investigator when someone comes to you with a claim
They mishandled it
but that's still not the response
years?
the third party investigator is there because the first response was so bad
Some people get offended by ridiculous things.. I cant even say some of these jokes are at the expense of anyone.. its illogical. I see the dancing on the table joke as at the expense of noone
That really depends on the severity of the claim.
for allegations as serious as was levied by Madison, i think it's an appropiate action to get outside council to investigate it immediately
how could you possibly invetigate something that happened less than a year ago years ago
it happened two-three years ago
It's not required as long as the company can do its job properly in the first place
Well, let the 3rd party investigator worry about that part.
pretty sure it did not.
it was end of 2022
Right now these kind of speculation is pointless.
Madison left end of 2021.
Madison left over two years ago, the video got leaked at the end of 2022
so then that is even less reason to think the video is related to it?
we literally have no fucking idea
it doesnt mean they know how serious it is or even that it is about sexual harrassment.. we only add that it is a meeting about sexual harrassment meeting just to make it look worse
y r u defending Linus soooo much for
mr "Linus could be on the table when he was giving the speech"
like wtf?????
hes not that tall in real life im sure he must have been on the table
because the way james phrased it makes it clearly sound like Linus was on a table.
why else would you say "are you just gonna stand on that table or dance on it"
Yeah I think it clearly implies he is on the table
it would only make sense if he was standing on a table
It's the stripper pole in the LAN center, right? Right?!
Can we table the table discussion? /s
I also think you should be offended on someone elses behalf. If Linus was not offended, why are you offended by it.
Theres literally 2 reasons to get onto a table infront of a crowd of people.. one being to dance and the other to address the people lol
That was a meeting related to workplace violations that should go to HR, this includes sexual harassment or other inappropriate behaviors. Even the most charitable reading of the meeting still makes it at least tangentially linked to sexual harassment given the nature of the meeting.
im done, because ur doing the same thing that ur accusing me of by taking info we dont know and applying it to the situation. u believe what u want to believe. imma do me. if u cant understand how some ppl would take offesne to that, then im done
someone just hoped they would get both.. i believe it was james :D
I mean, I am basing it on logical conclusions from what was said. there is nothing at all tying that video to the timeframe Madison was fired in, and even if it was I see absolutely nothing wrong with the way that meeting was handled by any party.
Let’s all just calm down and wait
We dont know what it was about from that video.. all we know is linus didnt elaborate on details because he wasnt there to discuss madison
The people who aren't calm have already been removed from the conversation lol.
this was a meeting to tell people their options on how to handle situations where there is conflict it wasnt even addressing madison
There's a lot of shit coming out of the woodwork around this and it all comes shy of any real context or timeframe - apply it to what you will.
It was definitely a response to what happened with madison though.. so they can make sure their other employees are ok
it was addressing some type of allegations. Linus himself mentioned that he felt it wasnt fair that he couldnt defend himself and threw shade at some accuser. Logically, it's true that we dont know for sure if this related to Madison, but it was in response to some type of allegations
I still think its bad to badge it as a "sexual harrassment meeting" it wasnt really and its unfair to go after someone for joking.. some people just want to clown around when they feel stress
time and place....
Alternatively, it was a cover-our-asses type meeting with some telling verbiage - e.g. complaints were being characterized as drama, the emphasis on how they need to stay as a team and there are always two sides, the statement about people should try to approach and talk to the person they're having issues with, not correcting an off-color jokes, etc.
both are wrong at work 😄
Serious meetings are not the time to 'clown around' or make jokes.
but like ZP said, lack of context or timeframe means 🤷♂️
I cant disagree with that... they have to at least be seen to do the right thing but then this wasnt meant to be a publicly viewed meeting
We know that they dont have serious meetings.. this is ltt they even made jokes in their apology
I mean, if you really REALLY want to find a timeframe, the PC on the table doesn't look like one of the LAN center PCs and isn't a showpiece - so it might be an editing system. Editors have 40-series cards in their PCs now, so congrats - that video is dated anywhere between June 2021 and whenever that video was released.
Yeah it was inappropriate; if that was normalised by the culture, the employee can't really be held at fault
And many people also feel that wan inappropriate.
The video was added over the audio so there was a visual - it's not part of the audio recording.
Oh then it's fucked.
Right but if that's normal it isn't contextually inappropriate even if objectively it is
Can't even do that now.
The issue is management not the employees
The question is did anyone in the room feel that it was inappropriate to have this kind of working relationship where you feel comfortable to make jokes even at difficult moments... im fine with it
What's this about a table?
we are people trying to judge them but this is between them and not for us to decide their working relationship
The best indication is the documents that were originally leaked alongside it that would put it just after Madison's firing (per the employee handbook revision).
And that corresponds to the stated timeframe of the meeting happening the day after she left the company.
Sad note: Emily's last public appearance as a video host was the 4080 review
sadness indeed
im sry for getting emotional with ppl on here. it's just frustrating talking about certain things on here. i might be biased because of my personal experiences at my own job but it's rly difficult to hear some of the opinions about certain things. sry for my part of escalating this convo.
I do hope she returns doing retro gaming tech
I'm callous and jaded from my terrible experiences tbh. Same issues, just went the opposite direction. When you work in a toxic environment for so long you kinda become emotionally distant as a coping mechanism and develop this sense of "I dealt with worse, not sure what this person is bitching about" mentality. It's something I'm conscious of and try to work on.
after at any other different kind of meetings, id agree with you
to crack that one after seems like a SA meeting feels out of place and show their lack of unprofessionalism and how they werent taking it matter seriously, which allegedly hold some truth on Madison claim how all her reports fall on deaf ears
ppl were just misinterpreted the dance is sexually out of context
preach ~
Me who didnt get the joke lmao
didnt uhm 🐷 make a joke about SA
I'll be jar jar
lmao i remember this clip
well this lost all productive value didnt it.
thats nice.
Turns out...
better than monday ig
Wasn't the whole purpose of this thread to funnel the drama away from #techdiscussion
