1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Brand new custom order for a top of the line content creation workstation! no fancy frills here, just a goal of pure performance.
basically one of the biggest baddest, fastest PCs you can build these days. 😉
specs:
Intel core i9-13900k 24-core CPU
ARCTIC LFII 420mm AIO
Thermalright LGA1700 contact frame
Asus ProArt Z790-Creator Wifi
Corsair Vengeance 64GB DDR5-6600 C32
SK Hynix Platinum P41 1TB Gen 4 NVMe
SK Hynix Platinum P41 2TB Gen 4 NVMe
MSI Gaming X Trio RTX 4090 24GB
Phanteks G500A Performance ATX case
Thermaltake GF3 1200W 80+ gold Power Supply
A balls to the Wall PC. Haven't seen one from you in a while.
What was the build cost for this PC.
final customer price was just shy of $4800 @ionic surge
Parts price?
uhhh, id have to check
$4100~ pre tax
@ionic surge
$320~ tax
$250 labor
$170~ transaction fee
Not a bad deal for someone getting a pc with no hassle
They could’ve just gotten an M2 Max for their ‘content creation’.
nope
If they do video, it would be cheaper and make far more sense.
nope

i mean, you can ask what the workstation is for
rather than giving bad unsolicited advice
🤷
I’m literally a photographer and videographer and would recommend MacOS anyday for video production.
But if they want to play games 50% of the time, then that’s fine with Windows, I just personally wouldn’t recommend a windows machine for video/photo work.
so you're not an expert PC builder and build PCs for a living for companies?
so please, keep telling me how to do my job wrong
or you can ask what the PC is for
and learn something
or keep being intentionally ignorant
thats a choice too

considering the m2 max is 8x slower for the workload than this specific build. i gotta say, you have great recommendations
then there's the fact that a M2 max would likely not even be able to open certain projects due to memory limitations
but yeah, i should have used a M2 max laptop
so much better
You said content creation, which 99% of the time implies videos, in which a MacBook would be a smarter choice, yes.
this is why you ask questions
and not assume
and tell people how to do their jobs 😄
I more said what would be a better option for a video encoding/transcoding machine.
cool. thats entirely irrelevant,
I literally couldn’t care less for your professional AIO building service, sir. Well done?
so you've chosen to be intentionally ignorant
makes sense. considering it would take a certain level of stupidity to recommend an apple laptop without any context in a PC building community.
rather than idk.. ask like, "what kind of content creation?"
but no, you want to look smart and you think you know everything. so you blab random useless advice.

Would still use macOS instead of windows for anything work related.
when macOS doesnt support the hardware required to do said work. its not an option
Now I am curious. What is the workstation for?
the system was built for a local animation company. mainly used for blender. with occasional adobe suite work on the side.
this is system 2 of 5
for each of their artists
That’s a nice contract to have and keep busy
their primary issue with their current workstations is a lack of Vram. they're using 11700F / 32gb ram / RTX 3060 12GB
the only logical upgrade from a 3060 12GB is a RTX 4090
due to the 24GB of vram
If only NVIDIA made the 4080 20gb or 18gb
as new 3090/3090ti cost the same as a 4090 these days
Yeah if only NVIDIA would not keep their products at a premium
Yeah they really did a good job with the 4090
Wish the 4080 had that minus 20% performance like last gen
To build the 5 pcs does it take a week?
For assembly
i went with the 13900k due to blenders typical preference for fast single core in the editor, while the 7950x is a bit faster for CPU based rendering. also with the side work on adobe suite, as the 13900k typically outperforms the 7950x in most of those tasks
but yeah, due to the need of the Vram, i thought it was funny some random moron was saying i should have gotten an apple laptop and it would have been better
Yeah. Not everything a Mac can do
as far as i can tell (cause no one actually uses mac for modeling and rendering in blender) the M2 max is close, but noticeably slower than a RTX 3060 12gb
Power efficiency mac but when it comes to saving time you can’t go wrong with a top tier cpu and 4090
well the M2 max doesnt have 24GB of Vram so...
and their workload is already rather close to that
so they have reached out asking me to configure and build them a dedicated rendering workstation that can handle the workload
so thats been fun
pretty much got it all figured out
I would assume it is nice change of pace building a pc with the best parts available
i do that to the best of my abilities with all of the commission builds i get
a lot of the other stuff i post is refurbished / used systems, so i work with what i can personally find a good deal on, that i know i can make money
No need to worry about if the parts you bought. Have all the pieces

the owner of the company is working out with his finances to figure out if he's going to be able to go with a single or dual GPU system to start
which is a $7000~ difference
lol
not cheap
but, the best of the best on the market for the workload
(its basically just a 4090 but with 48GB of Vram, more too it, but yeah, sums it up)
plan is a 64 core TR pro 5995WX
512GB of memory
and one or two of these GPUs
Hopefully he can save on his taxes by listing the pc’s he purchased
Wait do they support sli
Nvlink?
no they also dont support NVlink unfortunately
Jeez NVIDIA really doing planned obsolescence
they can still work together depending on the program, and blender GPU rendering scales nearly perfectly on multi GPU
the downside of no NVlink is no shared pool of Vram
Hopefully that 24gb vram will last 4ish years or that 48gb 6ish years
But when used for making money the faster the system the better
stop reacting with kek emojis to everything he says
