I think that's just for the front fans, and I don't think they're useless, they just barely do anything. However, it might be good to take the front fans out to fully open that side vent and just have the exhaust fans do all the work.
You can still turn the fan speed down if you want the fans to be quieter.

Yeah, this sort of area. The front fans have almost no space to take air in and seem to block most of that intake as well. Removing them looks like it would open up more space for the exhaust fans to pull fresh air in.
