previously I had the screen way more to the right and cable managment was so trashy, that I barely had any space left after putting keyboard and mouse in place. now all the cables are in the corner behind the PC and the monitor leaving pretty much 1/2 of the desk for me to use for other stuff. previously I had around 1/3 or 1/4 space usable for other stuff...

my friend insisted, that it'd screw up the cooling. idk if it works that way, since my PC isn't water cooled, and all fans have room for the air to leave

Friend is a goober. No fans or big vents on the back side = almost no effect on cooling. What I would do is turn it so rear io cables are going to the left then push it clear to the "back" wall so keyboard can fit in front of it like normal, maybe.
