@coarse gate the desk is a custom built desk using parts from menards
its two of these
with another skinnier one attached to the back of the 5x monitor side
using pocket screws
did you do anything else to the finish?
no, the shelf boards come prefinished, but i painted the 1x3 and the legs black
sorry it's not about your setup, i'm a newb, i saw your listing of parts and i understand enough that i can't do all that
i used 1x3's for the desk front, and 2x2 square dowels for legs
that's about all i know but i like the desk, looks very clean
and the desk is mounted to the wall behind it with 20 inch shelf brackets
oh you used shelving boards together
yeah
that holds on dry wall?
not sure if i have studs behind my desk, but i'd have to check
this run you like sub 100?
how many shelvs did you use?
9 for the desk, then i have 4 up top on the shelf
ok
the hardware, paint, and brackets were most of the cost
i only have 3 monitors
which i'm probably gonna give to my son and buy new ones
so i shouldn't need something of that size
if you know how to use a pocket screw jig, the 8ft shelf boards attached back to back make a really nice desk
i do not lol
i thought it was a desk you bought somewhere. didn't know you made it custom all the way
they're pretty simple TBH, just gotta take your time with it
its a jig that lets you drill and screw in a screw at a sharp angle
that one is really fancy
but
i didnt use one like that
i mean i get it but i would have to buy the tools. The overhead right now doesn't make sense for me to try to build one
you might of spent 400, i'ld have to spend more just cuz tools
well, if you're an adult, which i assume you are since you said you have a kid...
owning a powered drill is something everyone should have
thats the only tool you need, the power dirll
and the jig is $20
oh, some sort of saw is needed
🤔
for cutting the boards
i have "some sort of saw"
lol
i never done any paint finish of any kind
that'd be new
where did you get the board? like home depot?
and like 20 minutes to paint each side
Menards, midwest store similar to home depot / lowes
ahh ok
i might take on this project lol prob screw it up
prob better than buying some kind of desk for 500
if you dont have a menards nearby, i know people buy solid core uncut doors for desks, and they're perfect for desks
i have lowes and some other other called marvins
or solid core wooden countertops / butcherblock
how long did it take to put your computer together?
my PC? or the setup
i'm now just looking into getting one and build it on my own, was gonna buy a pre-built but someone convinced me that i should at least try
pc
i havn't built one since 04
lots have changed and i feel overwhelmed
my PC was like 8 hours, but my PC is not normal. its custom watercooled
for someone new getting into PC building, a typical PC build, i would give yourself 3-4 hours to sit down and do it
this is my personal rig, took longer to do all the watercooling, but thats something most people will never do
so back in 04/05 i've used newegg exclusively for parts, however i'm reading a lot of bad things, should i still go with newegg for parts?
newegg has had noticeable issues with their open box products. as long as you avoid that, you shouldnt have any problems
i mean there is a lot of bad stuff out there about newegg and i'm bout to dump like 4k/5k for parts into it
buying new, you wont have any problems. newegg / amazon / bestbuy, etc etc
the other issue is someone told me i should wait on the new cpu/gpu to come out
4-5 grand is a LOT to spend on a PC
buy a PC when you want to buy a PC. if you're always waiting for the next thing you'll never get a PC
so i was thinking to buy the other parts now and wait for them to drop then buy those but how do i know a part is bad or not
i've already been saving for a year for this build
so a few more months won't hurt it, just trying to go about the best way possible, with minimum headache
if your PC you have now is doing everything you want it to at the level you want it to, then you're fine to wait, but if you want to upgrade, just buy now. waiting for the potential to get something newer in 6 months, you'll be waiting forever
so i should just buy everything all at once
yes
ok that makes sense
also, spending 4-5 grand on just the PC is extremely overkill
maybe on like, your whole setup
but $2000-$2500 these days will get you an absolute balls to the wall gaming PC
plus other peripheals
then yeah, spend some good money on good periphrials
so, imma show you my parts list
but like, i don't like trolling. as some people seen my list and laughed at me
i get it, but just give me some good advice is all i want
most people in here are children who dont know much
lol
half the advice you're gonna get is from some random 15 year old who parrots what they've heard from other people, and think they're smarter than you for it
but yeah, send me a list, i can take a look
PC Builder - Intel Core i9-12900KS, GeForce RTX 3090 Ti, Lian Li PC-O11 Dynamic Razer ATX Full Tower
i understand the 2nd ssd is not needed
prob just a bigger hd is enough
not really sure if the case is too big, like i honestly don't want a full tower but it was just a safe route cuz i don't want to run into an issue with parts not fitting in
like the cooler is there only because i am not sure if any other cool is sufficient enough
i had have any case fans listed cuz i am not sure what i need vs what i don't need
yeah, thats a very extreme high end top of the line system. there's nothing inherently wrong with it, it will work great.
BUT... in terms of value, i would recommend not spending that much on a PC. if you're familiar with the term of diminishing returns, that PC list is the perfect example of it.
like i said before, once you start spending over $2000-$2500, the performance you're getting out of the system per dollar drastically drops like a block of lead. lol
you can get 90% of that systems performance for 50% of the cost
like this psu
Corsair AX1600i 1600 W 80+ Titanium Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply
i know i don't need 1600 but like in the future next 4090 card or whatever i'd prob need it right?
if it were you what would you change?
so, I build Custom PCs for a living
my personal view of PC building is to get the best bang for your buck
I can give you a list of something i would feel comfortable recommending, that will be the ideal high end gaming PC
but its not going to be, in my opinion, as wasteful as that list you have sent
ok so, before you do, i have 1 goal of the pc i'm wanting to build
just need to fit that criteria
i want to build it. Be able to play all the games that come out in the next 5 years at max (game settings) without having to change more parts to play those games at proper frame rates.
this is basically it. i don't want to have to touch my computer for the next 5 years or more without having to put anymore money into it, except general maintanence/cleaning etc..
so, the general rule of thumb is to get whatever top end i7 / 80 series card is available. and then every other generation you upgrade your GPU, and every 3/4 CPU generations you upgrade.
so, a 3080/3080ti is ideal, with a 12700k. you'll skip RTX 4000 but you'll likely want to pay attention to RTX 5000 or whever they end up calling it. CPUs last a lot longer, and the 127000K is a beast. working on the list right now
yeah i do
ok @coarse gate , so if i was building a new system right now, wanted something really high end, and also had some money to blow on making sure i got solid high quality parts, id personally be looking at something like this:
PC Builder - Intel Core i7-12700K, GeForce RTX 3080 Ti, Corsair 5000D AIRFLOW ATX Mid Tower
that gives you $2000 left of your budget to invest in very nice monitors, headphones, mic, keyboard/mouse etc
no cutting corners to save a buck in this system, with also not blowing money on things that have horrible price/performance
i actually like it, just a few questions
how hard is it to have this cooling installed?
i personally havent used a 5000D case yet, but i know its a very good case to work in, ive done several builds on the 4000D myself
a AIO is pretty basic to install
these are some of the 4000D airflow builds ive done recently
the 5000D is very similar, just a bit bigger
with a set of cable extensions, and some time put in
yeah
you can build a PC to look like the ones ive made
man, your builds look really good
you think i should keep the 2ssd or go with a bigger one but not a ssd
total storage is only 2tb
i helped one of my friends who's a youtuber to build a very similar build that i just recommended to you. he built it himself in a few hours, and doesnt have a lot of experience in building custom systems.

i personally have 3.5TB of SSD storage in my system. 3-4TB is a good spot to be at imo
do you have a website?
gonna cry if u didn’t overclock that bdie
gonna start crying inside
at the time it was what i could get my hands on, lol
if i had a choice i would have went EVGA, but cards were so hard to get, getting any 3090 was a challenge
yeah same here, kinda regret it but it’s a 3090 nevertheless
i was on air for a while till i put a second one in, temperatures suffered and just put it on water
ventus was one of the early cards that had blocks actually available
they didnt have FTW3 blocks out yet, and FTW3 was so hard to get, that was my preferred card
i was one of the few who actually got a white strix 3090 super early too
i got myself a tuf down the line but ended up giving it to my father
out of stock everywhere for the longest of time
I sold it to artesian for a pretty profit for one of their project builds...
then 8 months later they tried to chargeback the payment saying i never shipped the card, lol
@livid warren I think you need more monitors vro
why you need 5 monitors and an uw
Bro your setup as it it is rn is already my dream set up lmfaooo
been a very slow, long time build up to get to this point
