Perhaps your character had a spoiled childhood, only after failing and ruining the family name did they learn discipline and respect for others. Maybe they grew up on the rough streets and can never shake the habit of conning people in any scenario where they can get away with it. Try not to do too much main character "chosen one" type backstories (my character is the son of god and is here to save the world 🤓), it's way more interesting and lets everyone be important

alright so a mimic bored of staying still started to explore the rest of the dungeon, finding desecrated bodies with trinkets, some of them even having parchments telling their story, maybe even scripts of their spells or incantations, and sometimes books of knowledge about monsters and suches; nonetheless this mimic seeing all the bodies who died acting with great heroism was inspired to leave this dungeon, and explore the outer regions, to live and die like a mighty warrior like these forsaken souls.
so he set off shaped like one particular armor he was the most fond of because the book from whoever owned it, told the greatest of tales!

My character was born as a thief. He had to steal so he could survive. But one day, he got caught and was thrown in jail. And jail, for him, was a living hell because the wardens were corrupt and tend to beat him repeatedly. On one of their cruel punishments, they tried to drown him and that was his window of opportunity to escape. Luckily for him, he stole a knife from one of the wardens to escape, but the head jailor caught him. He stabbed the jailor to release him, only to be met with a dead end. The jailor cornered him to beat him and take him back to his cell, but he was determined to escape. He threw the knife at the jailor's hand and the jailor threw a knife at his right eye. They both howled in pain, but he managed to escape. Ever since then, he was deeply embarrassed with his injury that he chose to hide his eyes from the public and use his other senses for navigation. He continued to steal for his survival.

#

Oh yeah, his parents thought he was cursed and tried to kill him

My character would be born deaf, skinny, an asthmatic, have heart problems, allergic to most foods. She would be born in an extremely abusive household for 8 years. However, she then gets adopted later on in life.

as any good character lore would have

sonic rivet
#

what a quirky and specific backstory that was arbitrarily created for no particular reason

pallid carbon
#

I know right!

#

Yeah I really don’t know what to put for these dnd questions

#

Are these going to be used for some kind of server event?

sonic rivet
#

well yeah I dunno I wouldn't say I even know if I have a specific goal but people seem to be enjoying them with or without engaging too deeply into the d&d stuff

#

so I'm continuing on with them until I get bored

pallid carbon
#

I’m just making an oc 😭

sonic rivet
#

nothing wrong with that

I forgot the race of my Dnd character tho

They died and then the devil said they could go back but only if they send more sinners and then they were like "give me some powers then" and then the devil was like "ok" and now their only goal is to obtain the souls of sinners and just chill but their supply slowly drains since they occasionally need to send some to hell

Not gonna use chat gpt on these

The whole point is that YOU, the user, makes the story

Cant wait for the "make your stats" question

I hate the variance because I feel bad about high rolling and hate low rolling

pallid carbon
#

Yeah point buy is the best

iron stirrup
#

rolled stats is only good if everyone uses the same stat pool

#

that way everyone has that juicy spice of randomization but no one is really that much left behind stat wise

but point but is also based

A, writing lore

You are a pandaren born and raised on the mysterious Wandering Isle. While many of your fellow pandaren prefer a tranquil life, the lure of adventure burns in your blood [...]

#

Some time ago, a certain pandaren trained and lived in one of the monasteries on the cold North. Just like his fellow monks, he enjoyed the simple things in life: food, drinks and good company. That being said, he enjoyed drinking a tad too much to the point where he decided to experiment with his training a little. "Pure alcohol is easily flammable, I can utilize that... but how can I reliably ignite it on a whim?" He pondered that question for a long time when an answer came to him. "Ah, perhaps I should try communing with one of the dragons? Some of the trainees here study the way of the ascendant dragon after all." He went to the western section of the Jade Monastery where said way is trained. The Monastery itself is split into five sections: Training areas for standard monk training, the way of ascendant dragon and the way of drunken master, dining hall and rest area. He went there looking to switch from his training routine to that of the western part. As he talked with the Elder Cho he was assigned to the way he looked for. His training began, he read scrolls written in Draconic and meditated in the center part of the western section. That's the area where all those seeking the way of dragons meditate as it is the place where the Jade Serpent Yu'long is buried along the Elders who taught the way of ascendant dragon. Years went by as his training yielded more results. Eventually, he felt the lure adventure burn in his blood. He said his farewells to his brothers and sisters as he left for the great world beyond the Jade Monastery

Blaze Arson was a gnome who was chosen at random by the king to be a knight. There was no training as he was immediately called to battle the enemies. He followed the request by using his rapier in battle. His first enemy was a big tree and he immediately lost. He went back to the king, defeated, but surprisingly, he wasn't thrown out but was given advice. "Just burn it," the king said. Blaze took this advice and won the battle against the tree. He got addicted to fire that he learned all magic relating to fire and burning. He still solves everything by burning until now.

He got addicted, however, as he blazed his son after his wife said his full name for the first time. Because of that, his wife left him.

After that incident, he went on his way to the king to confess but was then kidnapped by mysterious creatures.

Rachel was a sentient automaton, built by a master engineer. Why he created her was unknown, but what was known was that he ended up raising her as his own daughter for 14 years. One day, he suddenly disappeared without a trace, leaving his machine child behind. She spent the next ten years fending for herself in an unforgiving world, attaining all sorts of skills for survival. Now, she's ready to go on a journey to find her lost father. As the memories become distant and hazy, one question continues to burn fiercely within Rachel: Did her father even love her in the first place?

one of my favorite moments is when they're offered a solution but they have to sacrifice something big like another player or the rest of the party, especially when this dilemma happens to a character only adventuring to find something to cure themselves.
how far will they go to cling to life?

Basically, char has a severe inferiority complex and urge to prove everyone wrong about their capabilities, no matter the cost. They were born into a middle class household agriculture household, and always wants to be doing more, but is simply told to follow educational paths. Eventually hits it big with a massive way of improving agriculture with a major invention. Despite not having to work a day in their life again, they join a rebellion movement against whatever local government there is to improve the standard of living. She inevitably rises throught the ranks as shown by a strong by a strong work ethic and intense commitment to the cause. After a long, but peaceful, systemic struggle for control, the group is in control of the region (idk the specifics of this part I havent thought about it very much). Once again, she is left in a position where she can take it easy for a moment, but instead decides to have her conciousness transfered into an automaton to get back to working in the field

For the necromancer :
Born in a rich family, without any big issues in his life.
Bored by his life and pretty much idolizing the life of an adventurer, he left secretly his house at night accompanied by his personal butler to explore the world.
But one week after, he found out that a revolution started in his region, a violent one.
He quickly tried to reach his house, but he was too late, the region was already in a civil war, and his whole house was burned to the ground.
His little « escapade » made him survive.
He asked his butler to try getting his parent’s body.
The butler succeded, but died when his mission was accomplished.
So, in desesperation, he learned necromancy to revive his family.

It failed

Excepting the butler, that became the general of his troops.

He now has the goal to find and kill the instigators of the revolution to avenge his family.

Yeah i know pretty selfish story

sonic rivet
#

eh I wouldn't say especially selfish

I was thinkibg about this for a good time and finally thought of a pretty good backstory
Ok so he was born in a deep sea, mixed halfling and triton civilization. Halflings still don't know how to breathe underwater, but they have great senses overall. Sadly they lost majority of the vision since it wasn't necessary. In compensation he has a great sense of direction and positioning. Halflings have a natural necessity of going out and exploring, so they went out of water to explore and learn. Generally wears the swimsuit he was given, even though he is on land

Man iam so happy with this idea rn
