Editing save files

You can edit various values of save files. Below are different available methods.

  • MoreSaves Mod | Install
  • With the MoreSaves mod installed, you can edit save files from the in-game Menu. Either from the Main Menu or Pause Menu, go to Options > Mods > MoreSaves to edit save files in game.
  • QoL mod | Install
    • If you open a save file with QoL installed, you'll have an extra file called user#.json (where # is the file number), which can be edited using Notepad or a similar text editor. If you do not know where your saves are located, type ?tag saves for more information
  • DebugMod | Install
    • While not an intended purpose, you can edit some parts of your save file using Debug, such as Nail Damage, and those changes will remain even after uninstalling the mod.
  • Website
    • Find the Save File, upload it to the website, and make the edits. It will Download as save file for Slot 1, so rename it if needed. If you do not know where your saves are located, type ?tag saves for more information

Hollow Knight and Bepinex

Mods installed from external sources from the installers (ie Nexus or similar) will not be compatible with mods that are on the installers. If you install Bepinex in your Hollow Knight install and use Lumafly/Scarab, then you will have issues, and your game may not function correctly.

You can use Steam's Verify Integrity options to remove Lumafly/Scarab mods, but you will need to follow Bepinex's instructions for uninstalling that instead.

A new dedicated Silksong Mod installer, Cogfly, has just released!

  • Click on the asset that matches your operating system, see below to find out which one that is.
  • This installer supports all official PC copies of Silksong, meaning that it works on Windows, Linux, and MacOS, and works properly with copies from Steam, GoG, and Xbox Games/Gamepass.
  • Integrates with previous Thunderstore Modding profiles, and supports direct modding the game for people that were manually modding previously.

Cogfly Assets by File Extension:

  • .msi, .exe: Windows Installer. It does not matter which one you use. After running it, you can safely delete it, Cogfly is installed. You may get a windows security warning. The file IS safe.

HKMP puts a copy of each player into each other players world.
Enemies have separate health and will usually be in different places; Items/abilities must be collected separately; and Breakable objects must be broken by each player. It's been available without the Patreon since shortly before Silksong released. It was officially released to test using the mod with Sync disabled (because the idea was to upload it to modlinks if there weren't issues), so there isn't troubleshooting support offered when people are using it with Sync.

That all being said, people often seem very confused about it- if it was fully functional and finished, then it would be the current version on modlinks. However, it has a handful of issues and incompatibilities that make it unfit for a proper release, which is why it's in beta testing.

What do save files looks like?

  • Each Hollow Knight save file is a user#.dat where # is the save slot for the file

Reverting Backups

  • Automatic backups are called user#.dat.bak#, where the first # is the save slot, and the second # is the backup number. You will usually have your last three backups

Hey guys, might not be the most appropriate channel for this, but it’s the closest I found regarding IT, so:
I found myself in the situation that both ss and hk are lagging on my laptop to unplayable amounts, and I also experience some lesser lag on youtube.
I’ve tried going through the usual tricks of updating system/clearing caches/checking if there’s something eating up my memory or my CPU but nothing seems out of place

I’m a bit at my wits’ end, does anyone have advice on how to troubleshoot this?

Hmm. Well I'll just throw out a few more ideas, not all might be valid lol.

  1. GPU temp? Maybe something blocked the fan and it's overheating
  2. Download anything off the internet today? Possible virus.
  3. Anything recent that could have caused this? New graphics card or something.
  4. Maybe try a more demending game that you can usually run, just to confirm the issue isn't just with team cherry games.
  5. Probably the least likely but maybe you set your max framerate down somehow? idk if that's even possible.
  6. idk, maybe try running hk and sk at the same time and see if they lag even more? Could narrow down if the game or the computer is being limited.

Oh, and make sure your laptop has clear ventilation (not playing on a pillow or smth) and that it's plugged in. Mine works more than fine normally, but has a heart attack if I unplug it.

Starting Pale Court

  • Install it using Lumafly
  • You must have ||All dreamers||
  • You must have ||defeated a specific boss:|| ||White Defender||

Known problems with Pale Court

  • If you are Stuck after loading a file:
    • install Debug and Benchwarp
      • Open a different file
      • Pause, press F1 to open the menu, in the Binds panel find Hazard Respawn and set it to a button
      • Save and quit to menu
    • Open the broken file
      • Press the Hazard Respawn button
      • After respawning, pause the game
      • Press Set Start, then Warp
    • Note: You should not Deploy Benches in modded areas.
  • If you cannot enter fights
    • Many mods such as Pale Court Charms, AdditionalMaps, Hallownest Vocalized, WeaverCore, HKTool, Extra Menu Backgrounds, EssenceAlways (and any mod that attempts to force Essence drops) aren't compatible.
  • If Charms are not working:
    • Skill Upgrades, Transcendence, and most mods that add Charms will prevent Pale Court's Charms from working correctly.
  • Hollow Point will not work if Pale Court is installed. Similarly, other mods may not work if you use Pale Court.

If you're having other issues, then please read #1090079233520451714 and create a #1057825333841240104 post with the requested info and any details. Starting Pale Court

  • Install it using Lumafly
  • You must have ||All dreamers||
  • You must have ||defeated a specific boss:|| ||White Defender||
  • You must then find ||the locations|| that ||connects each Knight to the world||. You can watch the Launch Trailer if you want directions where to go.

Known problems with Pale Court

  • If you are Stuck after loading a file:
    • install Debug and Benchwarp
      • Open a different file
      • Pause, press F1 to open the menu, in the Binds panel find Hazard Respawn and set it to a button
      • Save and quit to menu
    • Open the broken file
      • Press the Hazard Respawn button
      • After respawning, pause the game
      • Press Set Start, then Warp
    • Note: You should not Deploy Benches in modded areas.
  • If you cannot enter fights
    • Many mods such as Pale Court Charms, AdditionalMaps, Hallownest Vocalized, WeaverCore, HKTool, Extra Menu Backgrounds, EssenceAlways (and any mod that attempts to force Essence drops) aren't compatible.
  • If Charms are not working:
    • Skill Upgrades, Transcendence, and most mods that add Charms will prevent Pale Court's Charms from working correctly.
  • Hollow Point will not work if Pale Court is installed. Similarly, other mods may not work if you use Pale Court.

If you're having other issues, then please read #1090079233520451714 and create a #1057825333841240104 post with the requested info and any details. Be aware that Pale Court was not designed to be compatible with other mods, and you will usually need to choose between using either Pale Court or the other mod(s).

Two options
If you don’t have two PC’s, you want to use nucleus (see the split screen coop section on the hkmp guide)
If you have two PC’s you can put steam on both device and play the game, steam won’t be happy about it, but you can usually get away with it by going on offline mode or literally just not clicking on the pop up that tells you « game is being played on two pc’s at the same time, the game will shut down »
