Hollow Knight Crashes upon opening after installing mods ⚠️

This error can happen for several reasons. Read through all of the common ones below to see which might apply to you.

• "Hollow Knight isn't responding"
  • This isn't actually a crash, you just need to wait and let the game load. This is common with mods that have a lot of Pre-loading (like Pale Court, Enemy Randomizer, WeaverCore, and mods that load a lot of skins/audio).
• Your game patch doesn't match your installer
  • Modding is done on patch 1.5.78, required by all current installers. If you're on Steam, make sure your Beta is set to 1.5.78.11833.
  • "Mod Installer" (Zote) and Mod Installer 2 work with version 1.4.3.2, and should no longer be used. Tutorials saying to use these are outdated.
  • There aren't installers for other patches, like 1.2.2.1. For speedrunning mod help, type ?tag 1221 into chat for more info.
• Something didn't install correctly
  • Right-Click the installer, and select "Run as Administrator"

  • Add -force-opengl to the steam launch options.

You can use the launch vanilla button to go back to unmodded.

Seens like there was more than "nothing" if you managed to change your charms costs to revert that you'd either need to use whichever mod did it or save edit

How to fix Installer Errors

• Make sure Hollow Knight is CLOSED.
• Make sure that the Installer isn't in your Downloads folder (Desktop or a folder on the same drive as your game install is best).
• If the installer is in a .zip, then you must Extract it
• Right-click the installer file, and select "Run as Administrator"
• If Lumafly is automatically closing, you may be missing a system file to open it. This is currently easily fixed by running the older installer, Scarab once.
  • -# Note: it's recommended to use Lumafly overall, as Scarab has some long term issues that are fixed by Lumafly.

this is really nice for silksong considering how much detailt went into background components

however, it de-activates ALL of these, including light (which is stinky in the citadel)

Windows won't let me open the Mod Installer

• If there's a Pop Up that says "Windows Protected your PC", then click "More Info" (on the left), and then a "Run Anyway" button will appear to click.
  • This happens because Windows automatically blocks apps that don't pay Microsoft and go through the process to have their app Verified by Windows.

SSMP is generally going to be the recommended one, as it's actively being developed and Add-ons are made for it in the community

The current version does have a bug that can cause it to fall to connect if you're very far away from the person you're playing with (like separate countries), but that should be fixed in a future update

i use a couple of mods and for some reason whenever i died and collected my cocoon the rosaries doubled

This is a known bug of pantheon of pharloom mod so if u have that mod enabled that’s the mod that is causing the bug

Common issues

• If the Skin List is covering up other mods, you can toggle it with Del or Fn+Del. You can edit this Keybind in the Custom Knight menu.
• If your skin doesn’t show up in the menu, ensure that you extracted it from the zip/rar/etc it came in (tutorial: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/1207486627124093019/1403869873192571024/i.png).
• If your skin doesn’t work, go to Options > Mods > Custom Knight > Advanced > Fix My Skins. After this you may need to click Reload in the previous menu.
  • Upgraded Dream Shield (UDS) breaks Custom Knight’s first launch. To use both mods at once: disable UDS, open a save with only Custom Knight and wait until it stops lagging. You can then close the game and enable UDS again.
• If you see White Boxes ◻️, restart your game. You may also need to apply skins in a small room like a stag station.
• Ensure that you apply skins from the Pause Menu when your save file is loaded. Skins applied from the Main Menu only affect new files.

hey can i ask a quick question - got a friend who has never played the game but wants to only play multiplayer. im trying to help set up a vanilla game with the exception of me following them around in the game. i know that means we need HKMP (and i guess custom knight), but do we need stuff like itemsync too or are we good? just asking cuz i notice when i turn on itemsync it turns on rando and qol and all that jazz.

there's currently no plans for me to really help them finish the game, more just exist and maybe commit shenanigans for the lols. i can finish the game myself just fine so im guessing i can watch from outside the arena for them to finish their bossfight and then i can do it to complete my save's check?

Yeah if you only want to be alongside them you will only need HKMP, you need itemsync only if you plan on helping them collect items and stuff which would mean making a randomizer savefile but just turning all randomization options off

If you want to use skins hkmp has a function for that that doesnt require custom knight aswell
