Common issues

• If the Skin List is covering up other mods, you can toggle it with Del or Fn+Del. You can edit this Keybind in the Custom Knight menu.
• If your skin doesn’t show up in the menu, ensure that you extracted it from the zip/rar/etc it came in (tutorial: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/1207486627124093019/1403869873192571024/i.png).
• If your skin doesn’t work, go to Options > Mods > Custom Knight > Advanced > Fix My Skins. After this you may need to click Reload in the previous menu.
  • Upgraded Dream Shield (UDS) breaks Custom Knight’s first launch. To use both mods at once: disable UDS, open a save with only Custom Knight and wait until it stops lagging. You can then close the game and enable UDS again.
• If you see White Boxes ◻️, restart your game. You may also need to apply skins in a small room like a stag station.
• Ensure that you apply skins from the Pause Menu when your save file is loaded. Skins applied from the Main Menu only affect new files.

Fixing Common issues on Linux/SteamDeck

• Controller Doesn't Work / [Some Mod] isn't working!
  • By default (especially on SteamDeck) Steam may be using Proton and installed the Windows version of the game. This can have problems on it's own, but also causes issues because the Mod Installers will install the Linux version of the ModdingAPI, which isn't fully compatible with the Windows version.
  • How to Fix: Go to the HK Library page, select Properties -> Compatibility, check "Force the use of a specific steam play compatibility tool", and select "Steam Linux Runtime" (Note: not the sniper or soldier versions)
    • After this you'll need to select "Change Paths" in your Mod Installer and change it to the new install path (which you can get by using the "Browse Local Files" option in Steam, then reinstall your mods.
    • If using a Playstation/Nintendo controller, see this information.
• Game crashes or has visual glitches when starting / while playing!
  • Add -force-opengl to the steam launch arguments. Note: This can be a problem even if playing Vanilla, but it is commonly seen when Modding because of the greater resources used.
• Mods not saving correctly / loading correctly
  • This can happen if the Permissions in your Hollow Knight install get messed up. You can fix this by making sure that the current user (or all users) have permissions for the Hollow Knight install directory and subdirectory & files. If you are unfamiliar with how to do this, then you can open terminal, use CD "~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/" to get to the Steam Apps directory, and then use sudo chmod -R 777 "Hollow Knight" to update the permissions for the install so that all users can access it.

Debug Binds

"Every time I [do X] something weird happens!"

• 99% of the time, this is because you accidentally set a keybind in debug (or are pressing a button that is one of the default Binds). Note that depending what changes you were accidentally making, simply uninstalling Debug won't fix it.

How to fix

• Pause the game, then press F1 on your keyboard to open the Debug interface.
  • If it doesn't work at first, try pressing Fn + F1. If that still doesn't work, then go to Options > Mods > DebugMod and then you can set a new button to open it
• The Binds panel will list a few options on each page. If you don't see the problem on the current page, then press the ▶️ at the bottom of the panel to see the next page.
• When you find the Bind that you want to remove, press the White Circle ⚪ to the right of it, then press Esc on your keyboard to remove the bind.
  • Note: on some resolutions, the binding buttons don't line up correctly with the text, so be sure to check that you're setting the correct one.
• If you accidentally adjusted your Nail Damage, then you can reset it on the first page of the Binds panel. Find the Reset Nail bind, and simply press the ▶️ to have the action happen once.
  • if you set some other permanent effect, then you'll need to find the appropriate page for it in the Binds panel, and find the action that's the opposite of what you did. Some actions (like having extra Keys) cannot be undone.

• DebugMod | Install
  • While not an intended purpose, you can edit some parts of your save file using Debug, such as Nail Damage, and those changes will remain even after uninstalling the mod.
• Website
  • Find the Save File, upload it to the website, and make the edits. It will Download as save file for Slot 1, so rename it if needed. If you do not know where your saves are located, type ?tag saves for more information

Reinstalling the game won't change the amount if notches you have. That is part of the save once you cheat it in, even if you remove mods. You'd need to either use debug again or save edit to change it. Also lumafly is recommended over scarab.

What do save files looks like?

Hello guys, I think I have an idea for a mod that changes how the healing works in Silksong.

Normally, when you get enough silk, the crest icon stays lit, indicating that you can bind, but if you use silk skills you can't heal until you get more again. The idea is to change that so once you get enough silk you kinda "hold" the healing (like the reserve bind), and can use the spool for something else. Of course, if you bind you have to accumulate silk again to heal.

I think this could make the silk skills more viable to use, because in me first playthrough I barely used them... And for what I can tell there's no mod like that, or at least not that I've seen

I can't program it, but if someone is interested in this idea, feel free to implement it 😅

also, there is no limit to charms to equip, if you need to change the number of max charms that the knight (silksong F5) can equip you need to change the value in the file.

Here is my weaver crest idea, which im going to call the Crest of the Ensnarer

The idea for this crest is based upon hornets naked/crestless moveset, the weaver bosses melee movements, and the idea of using silk for martial arts. So this concept distinguishes the playstyle of crestless moveset, from the hunter crest, by emphasizing the use of silk in combat to stagger enemies, via spell spamming.
This is a playstyle I feel is not currently covered by any existing crest.

Crest of the Ensnarer "Weave silk into your attacks, gaining silk rapidly" (Obtained from a weaver in Bilewater/pharloom bay or from the remnants of GMS Cocoon in The Cradle in act 3.)

Gameplay changes: Silk generation is doubled for when you land a hit, but every melee attack drains either 1/2 a silk. (Gain 2 per hit but uses 1/2 of one for the attack) (when out of silk you use the naked/crestless move-set) Missed attacks will always use silk, but parried attacks (and spike object/hazard bouncing) have there used silk refunded.

Spells and Bind: The casting or recovery speed of Silk skills is speed up 20-33%, but they also deal 20% less damage. Bind heals 2 masks at the same speed as beast crest. (1 second) Multibind would change bind to both be slower and sloppy but heal 3 masks. (1 then 2 masks over ~3 seconds)

Melee Attacks: Hornets moveset uses her limbs which incorporate silk to reinforce her attacks. (martial arts) She uses her legs for down attacks and her arms for horizontal and upward attacks. (its attack speed is on par with base beast crest)

Horizontal Attack: Hornet will use her arms to create a whip made if silk. She will then swipe it upwards at an angle inverse to the beast crest. This attack would alter the trajectory of flying enemies to make them move above her.

Up Attack: Hornets up attacks are like an inverse reaper down attack. She will either swipe up with her legs or with a whip of silk to attack overhead. Its a complete arc, possibly with a short delay. (Which some down attacks have)

Down Attack: The down attack would be the same as Hornets naked/crestless down attack. But she will coat her legs with silk allowing her to bounce off spikes. Bouncing objects and spikes refunds the silk but hitting nothing wont. (Reminder when out of silk you cant pogo spikes due to the crestless moveset, but you would have silk hearts)

Run Slash: Hornet will swipe thread around her 3 times in a circular trajectory. (basically witch and wander crest running swipes but very short range and covers behind her.)

Charge Attack: Hornet will lunge forward with both hands, using web to grab enemies. Dealing damage to multiple enemies, and causing double stagger damage. (Aoe frontal attack with some iframes)

Tool Slots: Silk Slots: 2, Red Tool: 1 [Max 1], Blue Tool: 0 [Max 2], Yellow Tool: 0 [Max 2]

Crest design: Its inspired by both spider webs and weaver runes. Due to the in game designs of the latter this crest is symmetrical making it different from other crests. (Also a little bit of hive motifs due to hornets connection with them)

Hud design: Is inspired by 1. hornets own bodies design, specifically her leg which is used in the crestless moveset. 2.silk due to its use in the moveset, creating a pattern where it converges, into a more densly weaved closer to the tip. 3 The helix pattern is inspired by spider webs, weaver runes, weaved cloth and DNA making a double helix. 4. The crook surrounding GMS in the cradle, which seems to heard her silk. Along with the crook historical being used to represent power, guidance and protection.

Crest name: Is a remnant of an older design for the crest but i like the name. Other possible names are seamstress, weaver, or fighter (martial artist) based upon the definitions of using thread.

Anyone have any feedback? sorry about the wall of text... (might become a mod at some point)

How to fix Installer Errors

• Make sure Hollow Knight is CLOSED.
• Make sure that the Installer isn't in your Downloads folder (Desktop or a folder on the same drive as your game install is best).
• If the installer is in a .zip, then you must Extract it
• Right-click the installer file, and select "Run as Administrator"
• If Lumafly is automatically closing, you may be missing a system file to open it. This is currently easily fixed by running the older installer, Scarab once.

Starting Pale Court

• Install it using Lumafly
• You must have ||All dreamers||
• You must have ||defeated a specific boss:|| ||White Defender||
• You must then find the location that connects each Knight to the world. You can watch the Launch Trailer if you want directions where to go.

Known problems with Pale Court

• HKTool and WeaverCore are not compatible with Pale Court (or each other)
• AdditionalMaps, Extra MenuBackgrounds, EssenceAlways (and any mod that attempts to force Essence drops) aren't compatible, and will prevent you from being able to enter fights.
• Using a BenchWarp Deployed Bench in new areas will break the file
  • If you accidentally do this, then close the game, disable Benchwarp, then open the file again. Get off the bench you spawn at, and sit down again. Then save+quit, and you should be able to enable Benchwarp again.
  • Alternatively, you can open your user#.modded.json for that file, and edit "atDeployedBench": true, -> "atDeployedBench": false, . You can type ?tag savefaq for more information.
• HK Vocalized may prevent you from accessing fights
  • (This appears to not be consistently reproducible, but if you can't enter fights, then try disabling it)
• Skill Upgrades will prevent Charms from working correctly
• Hollow Point will not work if Pale Court is installed
• Any mod that adds new Charms may prevent Charms from working.

If you're having other issues, then please read #1090079233520451714 and create a #1057825333841240104 post with the requested info and any details. Be aware that Pale Court was not designed to be compatible with other mods, and you will usually need to choose between using either Pale Court or the other mod(s).

Common issues

• If the Skin List is covering up other mods, you can toggle it with Del or Fn+Del. You can edit this Keybind in the Custom Knight menu.
• If your skin doesn’t show up in the menu, ensure that you extracted it from the zip/rar/etc it came in (tutorial: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/1207486627124093019/1403869873192571024/i.png).
• If your skin doesn’t work, go to Options > Mods > Custom Knight > Advanced > Fix My Skins. After this you may need to click Reload in the previous menu.
  • Upgraded Dream Shield (UDS) breaks Custom Knight’s first launch. To use both mods at once: disable UDS, open a save with only Custom Knight and wait until it stops lagging. You can then close the game and enable UDS again.
• If you see White Boxes ◻️, restart your game. You may also need to apply skins in a small room like a stag station.
• Ensure that you apply skins from the Pause Menu when your save file is loaded. Skins applied from the Main Menu only affect new files.

There's a toggle API button, and the run modded/vanilla buttons also act as a toggle, using them once allows you to use Steam to launch the game in the same state

Make sure you haven't set any filters in the advanced search section, and spell it Hallownest-Vocalized with a - in the search bar, the fact that the name has this - seems to make the search function less likely to find close names that aren't an exact match
