Hello, every time I sit on a bench, my achievements start to show up. I've only used lumafly once, but I completely deleted it some time ago. I also recently deleted everything from the "apdata/locallow/Team Cherry" folder, I just wanted to reset the achievements so that I could insert another save later. It says on the Internet that this is a problem with the pirated version, but I have the original Steam game.

Modding and Achievements

  • Mods do not normally prevent you from getting Achievements. However, since a recent Steam update, some players report not obtaining them.
    • If you are missing achievements, opening the game in vanilla and setting at a bench may sync them again. You can also get them using the HollowKnightAchievementManager mod.
    • If you want to prevent them, you can use the Disable Achievements mod.
    • If a mod changes/removes something that's part of an achievement trigger, such as skipping something with QoL, then you won't get that achievement. Some mods that rely on SFCore such as Hallownest Vocalized can sometimes prevent achievements from working.
  • In some cases, achievements are still earned, but the pop-ups do not come up when modding.

Randomiser 4 is the mod they use in their rando vids

Skurry also frequenstly uses Connections which add more content to Rando 4. You can see those by searching by Rando4 as a dependency on Lumafly

The rando 3 UI with like, items on the left, skips on the right, and the rest everywhere else was incredibly easy to understand since you could literally see everything
The one thing I don’t like about the current UI is that you can’t click on a tab to access all the settings of that tab (from memory)
Like when I open a ramdo, I just immediately leave the main menu and go to the connections tab or the more options tab
Because there is (mostly) nothing for me on the main page

You could see everything, but it confused a lot of people, and there wasn't as much granular control for each section.The main page now is mostly just an overview, or if you're using presets. Being able to click to go to the settings would be nice but then there would have to be a different method to cycle thru the presets, so I don't really mind having to click the other button to go to the details, it's worth it for the level of control..

Connections is the name for all mods that "plug in" to rando

To find them all on rando you'll wnat to switch to searching by dependency, as I said above, and select Rando 4, and it will show everything that works with it

How it works

HKMP puts a copy of each player into each other players world.
Enemies have separate health and will usually be in different places; Items/abilities must be collected separately; and Breakable objects must be broken by each player. Editing save files

You can edit various values of save files. Below are different available methods.

  • MoreSaves Mod | Install
  • With the MoreSaves mod installed, you can edit save files from the in-game Menu. Either from the Main Menu or Pause Menu, go to Options > Mods > MoreSaves to edit save files in game.
  • QoL mod | Install
    • If you open a save file with QoL installed, you'll have an extra file called user#.json (where # is the file number), which can be edited using Notepad or a similar text editor. If you do not know where your saves are located, type ?tag saves for more information
  • DebugMod | Install
    • While not an intended purpose, you can edit some parts of your save file using Debug, such as Nail Damage, and those changes will remain even after uninstalling the mod.
  • Website
    • Find the Save File, upload it to the website, and make the edits. It will Download as save file for Slot 1, so rename it if needed. If you do not know where your saves are located, type ?tag saves for more information

Debug Binds

"Every time I [do X] something weird happens!"

  • 99% of the time, this is because you accidentally set a keybind in debug (or are pressing a button that is one of the default Binds). Note that depending what changes you were accidentally making, simply uninstalling Debug won't fix it.

How to fix

  • Pause the game, then press F1 on your keyboard to open the Debug interface.
    • If it doesn't work at first, try pressing Fn + F1. If that still doesn't work, then go to Options > Mods > DebugMod and then you can set a new button to open it
  • The Binds panel will list a few options on each page. If you don't see the problem on the current page, then press the ▶️ at the bottom of the panel to see the next page.
  • When you find the Bind that you want to remove, press the White Circle ⚪ to the right of it, then press Esc on your keyboard to remove the bind.
    • Note: on some resolutions, the binding buttons don't line up correctly with the text, so be sure to check that you're setting the correct one.
  • If you accidentally adjusted your Nail Damage, then you can reset it on the first page of the Binds panel. Find the Reset Nail bind, and simply press the ▶️ to have the action happen once.
    • if you set some other permanent effect, then you'll need to find the appropriate page for it in the Binds panel, and find the action that's the opposite of what you did. Some actions (like having extra Keys) cannot be undone.

Save Files

What do save files looks like?

  • Each Hollow Knight save file is a user#.dat where # is the save slot for the file
  • You can rename user3.dat to user1.dat to set it to your first save slot
  • You can keep a copy of all of your save files by copy and pasting them into a different folder on your computer

Reverting Backups

  • Automatic backups are called user#.dat.bak#, where the first # is the save slot, and the second # is the backup number. You will usually have your last three backups
  • You restore a backup by deleting the main file, and then removing the .bak# part of the backup version

Modded Saves

  • A modded save may also have a user#.modded.json (and similarly named backup). This file and the user#.dat are part of the save

  • On windows, the default path for Save Files is:
    • %appdata%\..\LocalLow\Team Cherry\Hollow Knight\
    • You should just copy and paste that path directly into the File Explorer path bar at the top.

"Every time I [do X] something weird happens!"

  • 99% of the time, this is because you accidentally set a keybind in debug (or are pressing a button that is one of the default Binds). Note that depending what changes you were accidentally making, simply uninstalling Debug won't fix it.

How to fix

  • Pause the game, then press F1 on your keyboard to open the Debug interface.
    • If it doesn't work at first, try pressing Fn + F1. If that still doesn't work, then go to Options > Mods > DebugMod and then you can set a new button to open it
  • The Binds panel will list a few options on each page. If you don't see the problem on the current page, then press the ▶️ at the bottom of the panel to see the next page.
  • When you find the Bind that you want to remove, press the White Circle ⚪ to the right of it, then press Esc on your keyboard to remove the bind.
    • Note: on some resolutions, the binding buttons don't line up correctly with the text, so be sure to check that you're setting the correct one.
  • If you accidentally adjusted your Nail Damage, then you can reset it on the first page of the Binds panel. Find the Reset Nail bind, and simply press the ▶️ to have the action happen once.
    • if you set some other permanent effect, then you'll need to find the appropriate page for it in the Binds panel, and find the action that's the opposite of what you did. Some actions (like having extra Keys) cannot be undone.

@fallow forge iirc you need to fight the bosses first at their spots on the map. That would be isma in isma's grove and the statue of hegemol at the city entrance from fungal. I'm not super sure about the last two but I think it was just white defender and lmer's mansion for the other two. Afterwards you can find them and the "pantheon" in the hall of gods

  • make sure you open up hollow knight with custom knight once and close it again before any of this
  • download the skin with the link below the skin
  • find the file in "downloads" on your file explorer, right click them and click "extract all". It should create a new folder right next to it
  • go to your modinstaller (lumafly or scarab) and click on "mods folder" in the bottom left. (might be different on scarab, I only know lumafly). It will open up your file explorer with all the mods you have.
  • find "custom knight" folder and open it. In there find the "skins" folder, open it and copy pasty the new skin file you extracted earlier into there

Debug Binds

"Every time I [do X] something weird happens!"

  • 99% of the time, this is because you accidentally set a keybind in debug (or are pressing a button that is one of the default Binds). Note that depending what changes you were accidentally making, simply uninstalling Debug won't fix it.

How to fix

  • Pause the game, then press F1 on your keyboard to open the Debug interface.
    • If it doesn't work at first, try pressing Fn + F1. If that still doesn't work, then go to Options > Mods > DebugMod and then you can set a new button to open it
  • The Binds panel will list a few options on each page. If you don't see the problem on the current page, then press the ▶️ at the bottom of the panel to see the next page.

HKMP (Hollow Knight Multiplayer)

How it works

HKMP puts a copy of each player into each other players world.
Enemies have separate health and will usually be in different places; Items/abilities must be collected separately; and Breakable objects must be broken by each player. Player attacks happen in each player's world, damaging any enemies/players it comes in contact with. A player is only hurt by the enemies in their own world. This page explains how you can use other mods and addons to synchronize some aspects, and improve your experience.

*Important note: "Invalid Addons" means that you have extra HKMP addons that can't be used on the server. Pouch servers can have any Addons that say that they require Pouch, but you otherwise cannot use others!*

Modding and Achievements

  • Mods do not normally prevent you from getting Achievements. However, since a recent Steam update, some players report not obtaining them.
    • If you are missing achievements, opening the game in vanilla and setting at a bench may sync them again. You can also get them using the HollowKnightAchievementManager mod.
    • If you want to prevent them, you can use the Disable Achievements mod.
    • If a mod changes/removes something that's part of an achievement trigger, such as skipping something with QoL, then you won't get that achievement. Some mods that rely on SFCore such as Hallownest Vocalized can sometimes prevent achievements from working.
  • In some cases, achievements are still earned, but the pop-ups do not come up when modding.

This is the mod for reskinning things in the game

Resources

Common issues

  • If the Skin List is covering up other mods, you can toggle it with Del or Fn + Del. You can edit this Keybind in the Custom Knight menu.
  • If your skin isn't working, go to Options > Mods > Custom Knight > Advanced > Fix My Skins. After this, you may need to use the Reload option in the previous menu.
    • Upgraded Dream Shield (UDS) breaks Custom Knight’s launching correctly the first time. To use both mods at the same time, you must disable UDS, open a save with only Custom Knight and wait until it stops lagging. You can then close the game and enable UDS again.
  • If you see lots of White Boxes ◻️, restart your game. You may also need to try applying skins in a small/empty room, like a stag station.
  • Make sure that you apply skins from the Pause Menu when you have your save file loaded. Skins applied from the Main Menu will only be used for new files.

hi, hollow knight on steam isn't loading bc for some reason it's tryna run it on linux 2.0 (soldier), whereas I'm using linux 12.0 (bookworm). How can I fix that?
