Save Files

What do save files looks like?

• Each Hollow Knight save file is a user#.dat where # is the save slot for the file
• You can rename user3.dat to user1.dat to set it to your first save slot
• You can keep a copy of all of your save files by copy and pasting them into a different folder on your computer

Reverting Backups

• Automatic backups are called user#.dat.bak#, where the first # is the save slot, and the second # is the backup number. You will usually have your last three backups
• You restore a backup by deleting the main file, and then removing the .bak# part of the backup version

Modded Saves

• A modded save may also have a user#.modded.json (and similarly named backup). This file and the user#.dat are part of the save

Where are the files?

• On windows, the default path for Save Files is:
  • %appdata%\..\LocalLow\Team Cherry\Hollow Knight\
  • You should just copy and paste that path directly into the File Explorer path bar at the top.
• For other operating systems (and Xbox Games), type ?tag saves into chat

Any creator can always have a personal Patreon, yes. You are not allowed to have a patron exclusively for one mod, but you can have a creator patron to support you, and offer things like mod preview there, yeah

The Modding API itself unlocks the mouse. You can install QoL which has an option to lock it again. Note that QoL does have a lot of game altering settings on by default, such as disabling cutscenes, so you may want to spend some time looking through its settings.

I wanted to ask if there's a way I can restore the chains around the hollow knight at the end instead of directly jumping into the fight each time I go into the room? I think the best way for that would be to use save states (which you should be using if you plan on speedrunning which I think is what you are doing ?)
But a mod that would restore the chains after you died without just reverting to a previous save doesn’t exist afaik

You can also check if Debug's Refresh Scene Data works for that, you can find that option on page 3 of its binds menu, enter the room then trigger it then reload the room to see if it works. But yeah for practice you probably want to use save states

How it works

HKMP puts a copy of each player into each other players world.

Common issues

• If the Skin List is covering up other mods, you can toggle it with Del or Fn + Del. You can edit this Keybind in the Custom Knight menu.
• If your skin isn't working, go to Options > Mods > Custom Knight > Advanced > Fix My Skins. After this, you may need to use the Reload option in the previous menu.
  • Upgraded Dream Shield (UDS) breaks Custom Knight’s launching correctly the first time. To use both mods at the same time, you must disable UDS, open a save with only Custom Knight and wait until it stops lagging. You can then close the game and enable UDS again.
• If you see lots of White Boxes ◻️, restart your game. You may also need to try applying skins in a small/empty room, like a stag station.
• Make sure that you apply skins from the Pause Menu when you have your save file loaded. Skins applied from the Main Menu will only be used for new files.

A. sure, but if u read my message u will see the reasoning why i think u pulling a message that is 3 years old is a bit of a reach
B. okay that i understand, but 1 week is not equal to 3 years. i would agree with u if the message u pulled was even like 3 months old, but a lot of things could happen in 3 years and the assumption that they would still have that pirated copy after 3 years is not entirely sound. especially not sound enough to reply to them and call them out for having a pirated copy when u dont even know for a fact that they still have that pirated copy. i would be more inclined to agree with u if u told me that it is common for ppl to come back after years to ask for help on a pirated copy.

I did read your message, and I disagree with it for the reason given (people come back and "try again"). The time that has passed rarely matters; and much like today, it literally only takes a moment to show that one is now using a legitimate version.

I brought up C because it's somewhat relevant: if someone wasn't blocked, I may not actually check user-notes unless I have a reason to. Save Files

What do save files looks like?

• Each Hollow Knight save file is a user#.dat where # is the save slot for the file

Eh, the problem is that because of the Cycles, I don't think practicing that part without practicing the whole room will be very helpful

That being said, the only way that comes to mind would be to like, creating a custom platform using Decoration Master, and then creating a Save State (or using Benchwarp) on that platform.

The whole room is on a cycle, with two factors:

• The cycle is slightly different when you first come into the room versus when you hazard-respawn in it
• Things can fall "out of sync" if you take longer to do something. Like, if one part takes 3 seconds to loop, and another part takes 5 seconds to loop, then they will be in different parts of their cycles based on how long you take to get there.

So generally it's better to just practice to have a consistent beginning, which will then give you a consistent later part

That all being said, remember that Path of Pain isn't required for anything in vanilla-- it's purely for an extra fun thing to do; if you don't find it to be fun, then IMO it's not something that you should feel forced to do.

Editing save files

You can edit various values of save files. Below are different available methods.

Hollow Knight Crashes upon opening after installing mods ⚠️

This error can happen for several reasons. Read through all of the common ones below to see which might apply to you.

• "Hollow Knight isn't responding"
  • This isn't actually a crash, you just need to wait and let the game load. This is common with mods that have a lot of Pre-loading (like Pale Court, Enemy Randomizer, WeaverCore, and mods that load a lot of skins/audio).

What do save files looks like?

How it works

HKMP puts a copy of each player into each other players world.

Weird Ultimatum Radiance behaviour, at start of the full spike floor phase she stopped fighting back or moving, after dealing some damage spikes in the middle disappeared indicating sword rain phase but she didn't teleport or attack. I kept dealing damage, far more than it would take to finish sword rain, but it didn't end. Then I jumped into the void and the run ended (radiant difficulty). Any explenation?

How it works

HKMP puts a copy of each player into each other players world.
