If it's already installed then you can open your mods folder and check the size of each individual mod's folder. If it's not then not precisely, you can go to their github repositories and check the size of the latest releases but it'll be a zip, so somewhat less than the actual size. Generally speaking, the biggest mods in terms of disk space I can think of are Pale Court, Hallownest Vocalized (each around 200-300 MB iirc), Weavercore (around 100 MB) and Custom Knight/HKMP depending on the amount of skins you installed (my CK folder is currently at 800 MB)

How it works

HKMP puts a copy of each player into each other players world.

Verify that you are using the correct installer and patch!

• For normal modding you should use a current patch installer (such as Lumafly or Scarab) and you must have Steam Betas set to "None"
  • Pirated copies / Unofficial ports are not supported
• Modding on 1.4.3.2 using "Mod Installer" / "Mod Installer 2" is no longer supported.

• You must have ||All dreamers||
• You must have ||defeated a specific boss:|| ||White Defender||
• You must then find the location that connects each Knight to the world. You can watch the Launch Trailer if you want directions where to go.

Known problems with Pale Court

• HKTool and WeaverCore are not compatible with Pale Court (or each other)
• AdditionalMaps, Extra MenuBackgrounds, EssenceAlways (and any mod that attempts to force Essence drops) aren't compatible, and will prevent you from being able to enter fights.
• Using a BenchWarp Deployed Bench in new areas will break the file
  • If you accidentally do this, then close the game, disable Benchwarp, then open the file again. Get off the bench you spawn at, and sit down again. Then save+quit, and you should be able to enable Benchwarp again.
  • Alternatively, you can open your user#.modded.json for that file, and edit "atDeployedBench": true, -> "atDeployedBench": false, . You can type ?tag savefaq for more information.
• HK Vocalized may prevent you from accessing fights
  • (This appears to not be consistently reproducible, but if you can't enter fights, then try disabling it)
• Skill Upgrades will prevent Charms from working correctly

If you put in the pantheon the overworld arena, it will load regardless of position, but Dryya won't spawn (I'm gonna try with Zemer now)
If you enter the real overworld arena, spawn Dryya, leave, and enter the pantheon, she will actually spawn, but upon defeat you will be warped back to the overworld in QG.
So you can put an overworld pale court boss in a pantheon right at the end. But they are too easy for a real pantheon

Common issues

• If the Skin List is covering up other mods, you can toggle it with Del or Fn + Del. You can edit this Keybind in the Custom Knight menu.
• If your skin isn't working, go to Options > Mods > Custom Knight > Advanced > Fix My Skins. After this, you may need to use the Reload option in the previous menu.
  • Upgraded Dream Shield (UDS) breaks Custom Knight’s launching correctly the first time. To use both mods at the same time, you must disable UDS, open a save with only Custom Knight and wait until it stops lagging. You can then close the game and enable UDS again.

  • Steam changed something about how it adds achievements recently, but if you got it in-game, then it should give it to you in steam when you next save at a bench in vanilla.
• If you're going to cheat, then just use Hollow Knight Achievement Manager. Achievements only mean what you make them mean, so if you're going to cheat them, then just press the button for them.

How do I backup my save fine?

What do save files looks like?

• Each Hollow Knight save file is a user#.dat where # is the save slot for the file
• You can rename user3.dat to user1.dat to set it to your first save slot
• You can keep a copy of all of your save files by copy and pasting them into a different folder on your computer

• Automatic backups are called user#.dat.bak#, where the first # is the save slot, and the second # is the backup number. You will usually have your last three backups
• You restore a backup by deleting the main file, and then removing the .bak# part of the backup version

Modded Saves

This error can happen for several reasons. Read through all of the common ones below to see which might apply to you.

• "Hollow Knight isn't responding"
  • This isn't actually a crash, you just need to wait and let the game load. This is common with mods that have a lot of Pre-loading (like Pale Court, Enemy Randomizer, WeaverCore, and mods that load a lot of skins/audio).
• Your game patch doesn't match your installer
  • Modding is now done on patch 1.5.78+, required by all current installers. If you're on Steam, make sure your Beta is set to "None"
  • "Mod Installer" (Zote) and Mod Installer 2 work with version 1.4.3.2, and should no longer be used. Tutorials saying to use these are outdated.
  • There aren't installers for other patches, like 1.2.2.1. For speedrunning mod help, type ?tag 1221 into chat for more info.
• Something didn't install correctly
  • Right-Click the installer, and select "Run as Administrator"
  • Ensure that the installer isn’t in a .zip file (if you got it as a .zip, you'll need to Extract it)
  • Make sure that the Installer is out of your Downloads folder
• You're on Linux/Steamdeck
  • Add -force-opengl to the steam launch options.
• Your game is cracked/pirated
  • Piracy is not supported in most communities for games, and discussing it is against Discord Community Guidelines. Mods aren't considered compatible with pirated copies, which will not get support in the main servers.
  • Modding is only supported on the official computer versions from Steam/GoG/Xbox Games.
  • If you do not have a supported version, please get one and you will get support with modding. Requesting help with unsupported versions may result in moderation action.

On the hk skin list there's a skin called "tanjirou" (from demon slayer) and on that skin, when you have the buff from fury, your attacks turn into the flame breathing form. is there a way to edit the skin to where the normal attacks are the fire? cause it looks cool and i really want to have that without being at 1 health all the time lol

It could be done, but it would require art skill & manual editing. Also most skin artists won't edit other people's work without permission, so you'd have to do it yourself as it's usually pretty difficult to impossible to contact artists in the chinese community.

That mod (fast travel) isn't meant to be used to play. It's a proof of concept that was never finished, and using it will result in your game breaking, just fyi

Starting Pale Court

• Install it using Lumafly
• You must have ||All dreamers||
• You must have ||defeated a specific boss:|| ||White Defender||
• You must then find the location that connects each Knight to the world. You can watch the Launch Trailer if you want directions where to go.

Known problems with Pale Court

• HKTool and WeaverCore are not compatible with Pale Court (or each other)
• AdditionalMaps, Extra MenuBackgrounds, EssenceAlways (and any mod that attempts to force Essence drops) aren't compatible, and will prevent you from being able to enter fights.
• Using a BenchWarp Deployed Bench in new areas will break the file
  • If you accidentally do this, then close the game, disable Benchwarp, then open the file again. Get off the bench you spawn at, and sit down again. Then save+quit, and you should be able to enable Benchwarp again.
  • Alternatively, you can open your user#.modded.json for that file, and edit "atDeployedBench": true, -> "atDeployedBench": false, . You can type ?tag savefaq for more information.
• HK Vocalized may prevent you from accessing fights
  • (This appears to not be consistently reproducible, but if you can't enter fights, then try disabling it)
• Skill Upgrades will prevent Charms from working correctly
• Hollow Point will not work if Pale Court is installed
• Any mod that adds new Charms may prevent Charms from working.

If you're having other issues, then please read #1090079233520451714 and create a #1057825333841240104 post with the requested info and any details. Be aware that Pale Court was not designed to be compatible with other mods, and you will usually need to choose between using either Pale Court or the other mod(s).

Save Files

What do save files looks like?

• Each Hollow Knight save file is a user#.dat where # is the save slot for the file
• You can rename user3.dat to user1.dat to set it to your first save slot
• You can keep a copy of all of your save files by copy and pasting them into a different folder on your computer

Reverting Backups

• Automatic backups are called user#.dat.bak#, where the first # is the save slot, and the second # is the backup number. You will usually have your last three backups
• You restore a backup by deleting the main file, and then removing the .bak# part of the backup version

Modded Saves

• A modded save may also have a user#.modded.json (and similarly named backup). This file and the user#.dat are part of the save

Where are the files?

• On windows, the default path for Save Files is:
  • %appdata%\..\LocalLow\Team Cherry\Hollow Knight\
  • You should just copy and paste that path directly into the File Explorer path bar at the top.
• For other operating systems (and Xbox Games), type ?tag saves into chat
