Resources

Common issues

  • If the Skin List is covering up other mods, you can toggle it with Del. You can edit this Keybind in the Custom Knight menu.
  • If your skin isn't working, go to Options > Mods > Custom Knight > Advanced > Fix My Skins. After this, you may need to use the Reload option in the previous menu.
    • Upgraded Dream Shield (UDS) breaks Custom Knight’s launching correctly the first time. To use both mods at the same time, you must disable UDS, open a save with only Custom Knight and wait until it stops lagging. You can then close the game and enable UDS again.
  • If you see lots of White Boxes ◻️, restart your game. You may also need to try applying skins in a small/empty room, like a stag station.
  • Make sure that you apply skins from the Pause Menu when you have your save file loaded. Skins applied from the Main Menu will only be used for new files.

"ModLog.txt" can be found in the same folder as your save files (you can drag and drop the file into discord)

  • Open Modlog with Lumafly (you should be able to copy and paste it into Discord)

those basically just are sets of different goals, usually people use 'normal' and that one has been changed up a bit over the years to remove problematic goals, cratthew goals are other goals which iirc tend to be longer/harder and so on for all the different settings

Interesting, for some reason the entire folder of this skin is read only (unless changed with admin perms of course) which is why the issue occurred. No idea why that was the case, I wonder if my computer did things differently than usual with downloaded files or if this is the case for everyone

Then either Scarab did Scarab stuff and you should switch to Lumafly, or you got 2 installs and Scarab found the wrong one (but you should get Luma either way). Try Lumafly & its "launch modded game" button, if that doesn't work then we'll switch to #1057825333841240104 and continue there

Randomize the breakable lanterns. The ones that release lumaflies when you smash them. Then have a lumafly collector who acts as a shop when you've collected enough lumaflies from broken lanterns.

Save Files

What do save files looks like?

  • Each Hollow Knight save file is a user#.dat where # is the save slot for the file
  • You can rename user3.dat to user1.dat to set it to your first save slot
  • You can keep a copy of all of your save files by copy and pasting them into a different folder on your computer

Reverting Backups

  • Automatic backups are called user#.dat.bak#, where the first # is the save slot, and the second # is the backup number. You will usually have your last three backups
  • You restore a backup by deleting the main file, and then removing the .bak# part of the backup version

Modded Saves

  • A modded save may also have a user#.modded.json (and similarly named backup). This file and the user#.dat are part of the save

Where are the files?

  • On windows, the default path for Save Files is:
    • %appdata%\..\LocalLow\Team Cherry\Hollow Knight\
    • You should just copy and paste that path directly into the File Explorer path bar at the top.
  • For other operating systems (and Xbox Games), type ?tag saves into chat

  • DebugMod: While not an intended purpose, you can edit some parts of your save file using Debug, such as Nail Damage, and those changes will remain even after uninstalling the mod

Starting Pale Court

  • Install it using Lumafly
  • You must have ||All dreamers||
  • You must have ||defeated a specific boss:|| ||White Defender||
  • You must then find the location that connects each Knight to the world. You can watch the Launch Trailer if you want directions where to go.

Known problems with Pale Court

  • HKTool and WeaverCore are not compatible with Pale Court (or each other)
  • AdditionalMaps, Extra MenuBackgrounds, EssenceAlways (and any mod that attempts to force Essence drops) aren't compatible, and will prevent you from being able to enter fights.
  • Using a BenchWarp Deployed Bench in new areas will break the file
    • If you accidentally do this, then close the game, disable Benchwarp, then open the file again. Get off the bench you spawn at, and sit down again. Then save+quit, and you should be able to enable Benchwarp again.
    • Alternatively, you can open your user#.modded.json for that file, and edit "atDeployedBench": true, -> "atDeployedBench": false, . You can type ?tag savefaq for more information.
  • HK Vocalized may prevent you from accessing fights
    • (This appears to not be consistently reproducible, but if you can't enter fights, then try disabling it)
  • Skill Upgrades will prevent Charms from working correctly
  • Hollow Point will not work if Pale Court is installed
  • Any mod that adds new Charms may prevent Charms from working.

If you're having other issues, then please read #1090079233520451714 and create a #1057825333841240104 post with the requested info and any details. Be aware that Pale Court was not designed to be compatible with other mods, and you will usually need to choose between using either Pale Court or the other mod(s).

How it works

HKMP puts a copy of each player into each other players world.
Enemies have separate health and will usually be in different places; Items/abilities must be collected separately; and Breakable objects must be broken by each player. Player attacks happen in each player's world, damaging any enemies/players it comes in contact with. A player is only hurt by the enemies in their own world.     • Upgraded Dream Shield (UDS) breaks Custom Knight’s launching correctly the first time. To use both mods at the same time, you must disable UDS, open a save with only Custom Knight and wait until it stops lagging. You can then close the game and enable UDS again.

Hey guys, I'm using CustomKnightPlus mod to get some skins but none are working. I mean I've done everything right, like they load into the game because I've put them in the folder and unzipped the files but the problem is they won't actually show when I click "Apply skin".

I only got 1 skin to work, it's like a grub skin for your knght, but then I've tried a Hornet skin, Grimm skin, Pure vessel skin but those do not work.

For the first question, yes.

For the second question, nothing will happen as long as you don't open it with mods enabled. In that case, it depends on the mod. Most are harmless, but a few might have an impact to some degree. Some mods are meant to be used on existing saves, others are meant to be used on new saves.

Windows won't let me open the Mod Installer

  • If there's a Pop Up that says "Windows Protected your PC", then click "More Info" (on the left), and then a "Run Anyway" button will appear to click.
    • This happens because Windows automatically blocks apps that don't pay Microsoft and go through the process to have their app Verified by Windows.

Installer vanishes after downloading / loads a blank screen

This is commonly because one or more issues:

  • The installer was left in a .zip or in the Download folder. (It's recommended to put it on your Desktop or on the same Harddrive as your game installation)
  • The installer may need to be run as Administrator (Right-Click it, and select "Run as Administrator")
  • The installer is being blocked / removed by built-in security software, such as Windows Defender
  • The installer is being blocked / removed by third-party security software (Avast / Norton / MacAfee / etc)
    • If you are not sure how to create Exceptions in your Security software for programs, then you can see this guide or you may need to google how to do it for the software that you use.

u can find the custom pantheon mod on the installers (linked in the pins), at that point u just install all of the seperate modded bosses and put them into your pantheon. the person who made the custom pantheons video links all mods used in the description as well

As for expansion, you'll want to try Pale Court if you haven't yet, it's basically a fan made DLC. Also if into randomizers, over the last year there has been quite a lot of new rando content.

  • If the Skin List is covering up other mods, you can toggle it with Del. You can edit this Keybind in the Custom Knight menu.
  • If your skin isn't working, go to Options > Mods > Custom Knight > Advanced > Fix My Skins. After this, you may need to use the Reload option in the previous menu.
    • Upgraded Dream Shield (UDS) breaks Custom Knight’s launching correctly the first time. To use both mods at the same time, you must disable UDS, open a save with only Custom Knight and wait until it stops lagging. You can then close the game and enable UDS again.
  • If you see lots of White Boxes ◻️, restart your game. You may also need to try applying skins in a small/empty room, like a stag station.

I fixed it with charm changer, they were already on 3 and 4 but in the moment I touch they values, in game they came back to normal because when I tried save editing it, it appeared too that they already were in 3 and 4 but after apply the changes, they were in 2 and 3 for some reason, anyway thanks!

Gun doesn't work / HUD is jank

  • Hollow Point doesn't work on new saves. Save and quit, then reload the save file.
  • Having multiple Gun Class charms equipped can also break the gun.
  • Hollow Point is not compatible with some other mods, such as Pale Court.
  • Despite what the ReadMe says, you do not need ModCommon for it

Healing isn't working!

  • If you are playing with Hollow Point Enabled, then read the ReadMe (linked at the top of this post) to learn how healing and using spells works.

Modding "Xbox Games" versions (Gamepass / Microsoft's App Store):

Note: this is for Desktop/Laptop. You cannot mod the game on Xbox consoles

  • Use Lumafly (it has additional support for this version that other installers currently don't have)
  • Right-Click the Lumafly.exe and select "Run as Administrator"
    • It should automatically find the install and ask if it's correct. If it doesn't find it, then you will need to link it to the Hollow Knight.exe found in C:\XboxGames\Hollow Knight\Content by default.
  • After installing / installing any mods, wait about a minute before launching the game (this is because Windows does a weird thing for Xbox Games things, and it makes copies of files).
    If you have further issues, then please see #"Support FAQ - Read before posting!" and create a #1057825333841240104 post if needed.

Important paths

  • Save Files: %AppData%\..\Local\Packages\
    • Find a folder in here with Team Cherry in the name.
  • Game Files: C:\XboxGames\Hollow Knight\Content\
  • Mod Files: C:\XboxGames\Hollow Knight\Content\hollow_knight_Data\Managed\Mods\
  • Note: Microsoft manages this install weirdly and syncs its files to inaccessible folders, so changes may need a few minutes to take effect and bugs with installing or uninstalling mods can occur.

Maybe, it could also be that your PC is sending the sound to another peripheral (like a plugged controller) or that you set the sound to zero in the sound mixer

HKMP (Hollow Knight Multiplayer)

How it works

HKMP puts a copy of each player into each other players world.
Enemies have separate health and will usually be in different places; Items/abilities must be collected separately; and Breakable objects must be broken by each player. Player attacks happen in each player's world, damaging any enemies/players it comes in contact with. A player is only hurt by the enemies in their own world. Hey all! I just put mods on my hollowkigj last night, was enjoying the new play through, I took a break and my dog randomly pressed buttons on my controller, and now my character moves the opposite direction! For example, if I move to go left, my character moves right! I do have the mirror mod on, which is the only thing I can think of. Also I have it installed on a Mac.
