How it works

HKMP puts a copy of each player into each other players world.
Enemies have separate health and will usually be in different places; Items/abilities must be collected separately; and Breakable objects must be broken by each player. Player attacks happen in each player's world, damaging any enemies/players it comes in contact with. A player is only hurt by the enemies in their own world. This page explains how you can use other mods and addons to synchronize some aspects, and improve your experience.

How to fix Installer Errors

• Make sure Hollow Knight is CLOSED.
• Make sure that the Installer isn't in your Downloads folder (Desktop or a folder on the same drive as your game install is best).
• If the installer is in a .zip, then you must extract it (tutorial: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/910762350267744276/1135824458041540629/image.png), and move all files to the new folder.
• Right-click the installer file, and select "Run as Administrator".

Windows won't let me open the Mod Installer

• If there's a Pop Up that says "Windows Protected your PC", then click "More Info" (on the left), and then a "Run Anyway" button will appear to click.
  • This happens because Windows automatically blocks apps that don't pay Microsoft and go through the process to have their app Verified by Windows.

Installer vanishes after downloading / loads a blank screen

This is commonly because one or more issues:

• The installer was left in a .zip or in the Download folder. (It's recommended to put it on your Desktop or on the same Harddrive as your game installation)
• The installer may need to be run as Administrator (Right-Click it, and select "Run as Administrator")
• The installer is being blocked / removed by built-in security software, such as Windows Defender

Common issues

• If your skin isn't working, go to Options > Mods > Custom Knight > Advanced > Fix My Skins. After this, you may need to use the Reload option in the previous menu.
• If The Skin List is covering up other mods, you can toggle it with Del. You can edit this Keybind in the Custom Knight menu.
• Make sure that you apply skins from the Pause Menu when you have your save file loaded. If you apply a skin from the Main Menu, it will only be used for new files.

I felt that beginning up extraneous information was not actually helpful, even if it would have been more technically correct. In a similar vein, there actually is a Custom Knight available for 1221, and afaik it does work: but since 1221 has sprites packed differently, and there's no existing way to convert modern sprite sheets to the old ones, and there are no existing public 1221 skins, it doesn't matter.

How it works

How to manually install mods on 1.5.78

If you are using Lumafly, then you could use either of these buttons (the 📝 opens the file directly):

That could be caused by another mod interfering, since Pale Court sin't considered compatible with most other mods, but without seeing your mod list it's difficult to know. If you have other mods that add new music or mods that rely on WeaverCore mods then try removing them. Gun doesn't work / HUD is jank

• Hollow Point doesn't work on new saves. Save and quit, then reload the save file.

Hi, I'm having trouble installing and using the Newborn-Spring custom skin. I have many other skins that work fine but this one in particular just doesn't work.

I did as always, I unzipped the rar in the skins folder leaving there the folder with the name of the skin. The error I have is that within the game the name of the skin appears in the list but when I select it, it shows me the default skin.

Archipelago is a multi-game multi-world randomizer, in that supported games can randomize their items with other games. So, say you defeat False Knight and get the item that is usually City Crest, you can pick it up and get someone's Link to the Past sword

HKMP puts a copy of each player into each other players world.
Enemies have separate health and will usually be in different places; Items/abilities must be collected separately; and Breakable objects must be broken by each player. Player attacks happen in each player's world, damaging any enemies/players it comes in contact with. A player is only hurt by the enemies in their own world. This page explains how you can use other mods and addons to synchronize some aspects, and improve your experience.

Guys I've got a problem on steam. Hollow knight achievements page in my library doesn't show the achievements percentage, it just shows 0.0%. This is only for HK, other games show the percentage.

Verify that you are using the correct installer and patch!

• For normal modding you should use a current patch installer (such as Lumafly or Scarab) and you must have Steam Betas set to "None"
  • Pirated copies / Unofficial ports are not supported

Editing save files

You can edit various values of save files. Below are different available methods.

• MoreSaves Mod | Install
• With the MoreSaves mod installed, you can edit save files from the in-game Menu. Either from the Main Menu or Pause Menu, go to Options > Mods > MoreSaves to edit save files in game.
• QoL mod | Install
  • If you open a save file with QoL installed, you'll have an extra file called user#.json (where # is the file number), which can be edited using Notepad or a similar text editor. If you do not know where your saves are located, type ?tag saves for more information
• DebugMod | Install
  • While not an intended purpose, you can edit some parts of your save file using Debug, such as Nail Damage, and those changes will remain even after uninstalling the mod.
• Website
  • Find the Save File, upload it to the website, and make the edits. It will Download as save file for Slot 1, so rename it if needed. If you do not know where your saves are located, type ?tag saves for more information

Hollow Knight Crashes upon opening after installing mods ⚠️

This error can happen for several reasons. Read through all of the common ones below to see which might apply to you.

• "Hollow Knight isn't responding"
  • This isn't actually a crash, you just need to wait and let the game load. This is common with mods that have a lot of Pre-loading (like Pale Court, Enemy Randomizer, WeaverCore, and mods that load a lot of skins/audio).
• Your game patch doesn't match your installer
  • Modding is now done on patch 1.5.78+, required by all current installers. If you're on Steam, make sure your Beta is set to "None"
  • "Mod Installer" (Zote) and Mod Installer 2 work with version 1.4.3.2, and should no longer be used. Tutorials saying to use these are outdated.
  • There aren't installers for other patches, like 1.2.2.1. For speedrunning mod help, type ?tag 1221 into chat for more info.
• Something didn't install correctly
  • Right-Click the installer, and select "Run as Administrator"
  • Ensure that the installer isn’t in a .zip file (if you got it as a .zip, you'll need to Extract it)
  • Make sure that the Installer is out of your Downloads folder
• You're on Linux/Steamdeck
  • Add -force-opengl to the steam launch options.
• Your game is cracked/pirated
  • Piracy is not supported in most communities for games, and discussing it is against Discord Community Guidelines. Mods aren't considered compatible with pirated copies, which will not get support in the main servers.
  • Modding is only supported on the official computer versions from Steam/GoG/Xbox Games.
  • If you do not have a supported version, please get one and you will get support with modding. Requesting help with unsupported versions may result in moderation action.

Modding and Achievements

• Mods do not normally prevent you from getting Achievements.
  • If you want to prevent them, you can use the Disable Achievements mod.
  • If a mod changes/removes something that's part of an achievement trigger, then you won't get that achievement.
• In many cases, achievements are still earned, but the pop-ups do not come up when modding.
• In some rare cases, players report not getting achievements when modding. While this is not normal, it should be mentioned that it can happen.
  • This is often tied to them doing something like skipping something with QoL (such as credits), and thus skipping the actual trigger for the Achievement.
  • Some mods that rely on SFCore such as Hallownest Vocalized can sometimes prevent achievements from working.

Common issues

• If your skin isn't working, go to Options > Mods > Custom Knight > Advanced > Fix My Skins. After this, you may need to use the Reload option in the previous menu.
• If The Skin List is covering up other mods, you can toggle it with Del. You can edit this Keybind in the Custom Knight menu.
• Make sure that you apply skins from the Pause Menu when you have your save file loaded. If you apply a skin from the Main Menu, it will only be used for new files.

Starting Pale Court

• Install it using Lumafly
• You must have ||All dreamers||
• You must have ||defeated a specific boss:|| ||White Defender||
• You must then find the location that connects each Knight to the world. You can watch the Launch Trailer if you want directions where to go.

Known problems with Pale Court

• MAKE SURE YOU ARE USING THE LATEST UPDATED VERSION
• AdditionalMaps, Randomizer 4, Extra MenuBackgrounds, EssenceAlways (and any mod that attempts to force Essence drops) aren't compatible, and will prevent you from being able to enter fights.
• Using a BenchWarp Deployed Bench in new areas will break the file
  • If you accidentally do this, then close the game, disable Benchwarp, then open the file again. Get off the bench you spawn at, and sit down again. Then save+quit, and you should be able to enable Benchwarp again.
  • Alternatively, you can open your user#.modded.json for that file, and edit "atDeployedBench": true, -> "atDeployedBench": false, . You can type ?tag savefaq for more information.
• HK Vocalized may prevent you from accessing fights
  • (This appears to not be consistently reproducible, but if you can't enter fights, then try disabling it)
• Skill Upgrades will prevent Charms from working correctly
• Hollow Point will not work if Pale Court is installed
• Any mod that adds new Charms may prevent Charms from working.

If you're having other issues, then please read #1090079233520451714 and create a #1057825333841240104 post with the requested info and any details. Be aware that Pale Court was not designed to be compatible with other mods, and you will usually need to choose between using either Pale Court or the other mod(s).
