I found out Hegemol rewards an extremely aggressive playstyle. Lots of windows to dish massive damage when he's staggered or punching the floor. Ignore those windows and the fight becomes so much harder.

Modding and Achievements

  • Mods do not normally prevent you from getting Achievements.
    • If you want to prevent them, you can use the Disable Achievements mod.
    • If a mod changes/removes something that's part of an achievement trigger, then you won't get that achievement.
  • In many cases, achievements are still earned, but the pop-ups do not come up when modding.
  • In some rare cases, players report not getting achievements when modding. While this is not normal, it should be mentioned that it can happen.
    • This is often tied to them doing something like skipping something with QoL (such as credits), and thus skipping the actual trigger for the Achievement.
    • Some mods that rely on SFCore such as Hallownest Vocalized can sometimes prevent achievements from working.

Windows won't let me open the Mod Installer

  • If there's a Pop Up that says "Windows Protected your PC", then click "More Info" (on the left), and then a "Run Anyway" button will appear to click.
    • This happens because Windows automatically blocks apps that don't pay Microsoft and go through the process to have their app Verified by Windows.

Installer vanishes after downloading / loads a blank screen

This is commonly because one or more issues:

  • The installer was left in a .zip or in the Download folder. (It's recommended to put it on your Desktop or on the same Harddrive as your game installation)
  • The installer may need to be run as Administrator (Right-Click it, and select "Run as Administrator")
  • The installer is being blocked / removed by built-in security software, such as Windows Defender
  • The installer is being blocked / removed by third-party security software (Avast / Norton / MacAfee / etc)
    • If you are not sure how to create Exceptions in your Security software for programs, then you can see this guide or you may need to google how to do it for the software that you use.

Mods/Controller not working correctly on Steam Deck
Issue: Steam Deck installs the Windows version of HK, then runs it in proton. This would be fine except that you install Linux Scarab, which replaces the Assembly-Csharp with the Linux version, and then it doesn't like to work correctly on "Windows" anymore

Solution: Go to the HK Library page, select Properties -> Compatibility, check "Force the use of a specific steam play compatibility tool", and select "Steam Linux Runtime" (Note: not the sniper or soldier versions)

This will reinstall the Linux version of the game, and move some files around, so you'll need to select "Change Paths" in Scarab and change it to the new install path, then reinstall your mods. After this, everything should be working.

  • Hollow Point doesn't work on new saves. Save and quit, then reload the save file.
  • Having multiple Gun Class charms equipped can also break the gun.
  • Hollow Point is not compatible with some other mods, such as Pale Court.

HKMP (Hollow Knight Multiplayer)

How it works

HKMP puts a copy of each player into each other players world.
Enemies have separate health and will usually be in different places; Items/abilities must be collected separately; and Breakable objects must be broken by each player. Player attacks happen in each player's world, damaging any enemies/players it comes in contact with. A player is only hurt by the enemies in their own world. iirc custom knight creator only works with the knight's sprites, you'll need to use spritepacker.
Also there is a mod that makes all enemies invisible, DumbEnemy, but I don't know if that would work with what you're trying to do

it was definitely because the boss was new, my initial impression was also pretty "wtf is this" but some time playing and learning it has definitely changed that opinion. I can now kill it 100% of the time charmless, identified a half dozen heal spots, recently produced an All Bindings kill, and a charmless hitless is coming real soon too.

It's hard make no mistake, but I'm finding I disagree with the idea that it's badly put together and/or bullshit (besides one singular move having the potential to box you in with no escape, but ddark solves that one). I don't think it's as good as pale court bosses, but it's probably a pretty solid silver medal IMO.

Starting Pale Court

  • Install it using Lumafly
  • You must have ||All dreamers||
  • You must have ||defeated a specific boss:|| ||White Defender||
  • You must then find the location that connects each Knight to the world. You can watch the Launch Trailer if you want directions where to go.

Known problems with Pale Court

  • MAKE SURE YOU ARE USING THE LATEST UPDATED VERSION
  • AdditionalMaps, Randomizer 4, Extra MenuBackgrounds, EssenceAlways (and any mod that attempts to force Essence drops) aren't compatible, and will prevent you from being able to enter fights.
  • Using a BenchWarp Deployed Bench in new areas will break the file
    • If you accidentally do this, then close the game, disable Benchwarp, then open the file again. Get off the bench you spawn at, and sit down again. Then save+quit, and you should be able to enable Benchwarp again.
    • Alternatively, you can open your user#.modded.json for that file, and edit "atDeployedBench": true, -> "atDeployedBench": false, . You can type ?tag savefaq for more information.
  • HK Vocalized may prevent you from accessing fights
    • (This appears to not be consistently reproducible, but if you can't enter fights, then try disabling it)
  • Skill Upgrades will prevent Charms from working correctly
  • Hollow Point will not work if Pale Court is installed
  • Any mod that adds new Charms may prevent Charms from working.

If you're having other issues, then please read #1090079233520451714 and create a #1057825333841240104 post with the requested info and any details. Be aware that Pale Court was not designed to be compatible with other mods, and you will usually need to choose between using either Pale Court or the other mod(s).

Windows won't let me open the Mod Installer

  • If there's a Pop Up that says "Windows Protected your PC", then click "More Info" (on the left), and then a "Run Anyway" button will appear to click.
    • This happens because Windows automatically blocks apps that don't pay Microsoft and go through the process to have their app Verified by Windows.

Installer vanishes after downloading / loads a blank screen

This is commonly because one or more issues:

  • The installer was left in a .zip or in the Download folder. (It's recommended to put it on your Desktop or on the same Harddrive as your game installation)
  • The installer may need to be run as Administrator (Right-Click it, and select "Run as Administrator")
  • The installer is being blocked / removed by built-in security software, such as Windows Defender
  • The installer is being blocked / removed by third-party security software (Avast / Norton / MacAfee / etc)

that is definitely the right file but my problem persists. so I'll go into more detail.

I reinstalled and it clearly hadn't remembered my settings. so I went to redo them, changed the video settings to windowed mode and changed nothing else, then went to modify keyboard controls. When changing the attack button it seemed to hang for a long while before executing a long string of buffered inputs. I was able to continue for a bit but it seemed finicky until it totally hung. now when I relaunch it I have no keyboard control at all and it hangs as soon as I click on anything (consuming an alarming amount of CPU for still being on the main menu)

oh also, when I reinstall the game now it repopulates my registry data with the old broken version. so its definitely saving it somewhere else too

Solved. my solution was to boot the game then hotswap in a valid registry file after it had created a corrupted one. still no idea what caused the problem in the first place
