How to manually install mods on 1.5.78

• Download the mod (it'll be either a dll file or a .zip that you need to Extract).
• Go to your /Mods folder and create a folder with the name of the mod.
• Note: You can use your installer to Open the Mods Folder
• Move the mod file(s) into the newly created folder.
• Launch the game.

🔹 Folder: Make sure your folder is extracted, and on your desktop/subfolder inside your desktop and that there are the 4 files inside that came in the zipped folder.

🔹 Permissions: Ensure your antivirus software, windows defender, firewall, or equivalent are not blocking the scarab program from running.

🔹 VPN: If your scarab files are in order, restarting made no change and the issue persists use a VPN, If you don't already have one, https://1.1.1.1/ is a trusted free VPN.

🔹 Reset Installer: If using a VPN didn't work try resetting Scarab by doing the following:

and delete

Then run the installer again.

This will automatically delete HKInstallerSettings.json

No but you can use it to see your completion, it's in the left part of its menu. If you aren't playing a randomizer or if world sense isn't randoed you can always benchwarp to the black egg bench to quickly read the lore tablet there

Well Lumafly is improved compared to scarab so you check if the issue still happens with this installer, and if it still doesn't work then you should open a post in #1057825333841240104 (and include the requested info from its pinned faq) since a crash will likely still happen if you install the mods manually, so the issue is probably from somewhere else

You can edit various values of save files. Below are different available methods.

• MoreSaves Mod | Install
• With the MoreSaves mod installed, you can edit save files from the in-game Menu. Either from the Main Menu or Pause Menu, go to Options > Mods > MoreSaves to edit save files in game.
• QoL mod | Install
  • If you open a save file with QoL installed, you'll have an extra file called user#.json (where # is the file number), which can be edited using Notepad or a similar text editor. If you do not know where your saves are located, type ?tag saves for more information
• DebugMod | Install
  • While not an intended purpose, you can edit some parts of your save file using Debug, such as Nail Damage, and those changes will remain even after uninstalling the mod.
• Website
  • Find the Save File, upload it to the website, and make the edits. It will Download as save file for Slot 1, so rename it if needed. If you do not know where your saves are located, type ?tag saves for more information

That sounds like an issue with the mod not having those sounds linked to the in game sound effect sliders, not much can be done about it, just raise the other sfx to their level I guess

Unless you meant the curse randomizer they posted a month ago, in this case you have to install the mod for this (called CurseRandomizer), you'll be able to access its options by clicking Connections from the rando menu

Having scarab shouldn't make a difference, that being said you can also rename the backups of the save as well in case it's the game itself that restores the automatic backups (the userX.dat.bak#, with X = slot of the save and # = number of the backup)

The stuff that you unlocked will still be there, because the changes are stored in a separate file. Interferences between vanilla and modded can happen when a mod affects a main file (so not the separated one), but nothing that a save edit can't fix in these cases

Ive beat hk a few times and ive been messing with mods. I added debugmod so i could try speedrun with all skills and charms.

I gave myself all the charms and it gave me carefree melody which i didnt want.

I then turned it back into the grimmchilde so i could face grimm for the pantheon

It somehow wouldnt work so i had to noclip through the wall to get to his room. I then beat NKG and thought i was fine but then the hut disappeared

But when i went to pantheon 3 i cant get in cuz i need to beat grimm

No, but if you've completed the game casually you can just start a Godseeker mode save

It's kind of unclear exactly what you did that messed things up, but you'd probably need to save edit if you wanted to do it on your current file

You can edit various values of save files. Below are different available methods.

• Use Lumafly (it has additional support for this version that other installers currently don't have)
  • Download: https://themulhima.github.io/Lumafly?download
  • Make sure that the Lumafly's exe isn't in Downloads. Ideally put it on your Desktop.
• Right-Click the Lumafly.exe and select "Run as Administrator"
  • It should automatically find the install and ask if it's correct. If it doesn't find it, then you will need to link it to the Hollow Knight.exe found in C:\XboxGames\Hollow Knight\Content by default.
• After installing / installing any mods, wait about a minute before launching the game (this is because Windows does a weird thing for Xbox Games things, and it makes copies of files)

How it works

HKMP puts a copy of each player into each other players world.
Enemies have separate health and will usually be in different places; Items/abilities must be collected separately; and Breakable objects must be broken by each player. Modding FAQ

How do I mod the game?

Lumafly and Scarab are the main programs used to install mods for Hollow Knight. You will also need a legitimate copy of the game on PC in order to mod. Mods will not work on console versions of the game. Watch through this guide for a detailed, step by step guide of how to get your mods set up.

What patch should I use?

Modding has entirely moved on to patch 1.5.78.11833 (latest patch) and the old Mod Installer / Mod Installer 2 are no longer supported. To check what patch you're on in Steam, type ?tag steambetas into the chat.

Can I mod a pirated copy of the game?

Modding is not supported on pirated versions of the game and help will not be provided for those with such copies. Modding is only supported for versions on Steam, GoG (Good Old Games), Xbox Gamepass/Microsoft Store. Discussing piracy is against channel rules and the Discord Community Guidelines, and doing so may result in moderation actions.

I need support! Where do I get help?

Is the modding program safe? My antivirus flagged it as malicious!

This happens because Windows automatically blocks apps that don't pay Microsoft and go through the process to have their app Verified by Windows. Scarab and Lumafly are both fan projects, with the source code available to the public. They have been used safely by hundreds of thousands of people across the server, as well as trusted, notable members of the Hollow Knight Community. To learn more, type ?tag virus into the chat.

How do I mod patch 1221?

Current modinstallers do not work with patch 1221, and you need to install mods on 1221 manually. For more information, type ?tag 1221 into the chat.

- I don't have access to the skin link on the document, how do I get my skin?

Some skins are posted in the main Hollow Knight Server and/or the Hollow Knight Modding Discord. You must join both servers to ensure you have access to all skins on the document.

- The skin I want didn't download as a folder, how do I extract it?

Some skins are compressed in rar format, in which case you need to download 7zip. Right click on the file, navigate to 7zip, and select "Extract all". The skin folder will then be extracted, which then be put into the proper place for you to enjoy.

- My skins aren't showing up in game, what do I do?

Skins will only work if they are installed correctly in the proper folder. For more informatoin, type ?tag ck into the chat and confirm that your folder structure matches the example screenshot shown from the command.
For further troubleshooting, please see #1090079233520451714 and create a post in #1057825333841240104 for community support.
Skins applied in the Main Menu will only affect New Saves (you need to apply them in Pause Menu for existing saves).
Skins are not considered compatible with some mods, such as Hollow Point, and may not work.

Restart your game. Try also applying the skin in a small/empty room, like a stag station.

How to fix Soul (after using Hollow Point)

• Using MoreSaves mod:
  1. In the Hollow Knight main menu, go to Options > Mods > MoreSaves > Save Edit
  2. In the search bar, type "focusMP_amount"
  3. Set the value to 33
  4. Click "Apply"
• Using QoL (Quality of Life) mod:
  1. Go to your save files (type ?tag saves in chat if you don't know where that is)
  2. Locate user#.json (with # being the save slot number)
  3. CTRL+F "focusMP_amount"
  4. Set the value to 33
• Without using another mod:
  1. Go to https://bloodorca.github.io/hollow/
  2. Go to your save files (type ?tag modding saves in chat if you don't know where that is)
  3. Locate user#.dat (with # being the save slot number)
  4. Upload that file to the website
  5. CTRL+F "focusMP_amount"
  6. Set the value to 33
  7. "Download encrypted (PC)"
  8. Rename it to the original filename (it will download as user1.dat, rename if you edited a different save slot.)

Editing save files

You can edit various values of save files. Below are different available methods.

• MoreSaves Mod | Install
• With the MoreSaves mod installed, you can edit save files from the in-game Menu. Either from the Main Menu or Pause Menu, go to Options > Mods > MoreSaves to edit save files in game.
• QoL mod | Install
  • If you open a save file with QoL installed, you'll have an extra file called user#.json (where # is the file number), which can be edited using Notepad or a similar text editor. If you do not know where your saves are located, type ?tag saves for more information
• DebugMod | Install
  • While not an intended purpose, you can edit some parts of your save file using Debug, such as Nail Damage, and those changes will remain even after uninstalling the mod.
• Website
  • Find the Save File, upload it to the website, and make the edits. It will Download as save file for Slot 1, so rename it if needed. If you do not know where your saves are located, type ?tag saves for more information

Pretty much everything is a Unity GameObject, with components such has colliders, sprite renderers, etc, there are mods that help visualize all of that, Debug lets you see the hitboxes, and Unity explorer gives you pretty detailed info on each gameObject of the scene you're currently in (screenshot shows some of the info you can get with Unity explorer, here I selected the sprite renderer of a blade of grass)

Hollow Knight Crashes upon opening after installing a mod ⚠️

This error can happen for a number of reasons. Read through all of the common reasons below to see which might apply to you.

• Your game patch doesn't match the installer you used

  • Modding is currently done on patch 1.5.78+, and this is what all current installers require. If you're on Steam, then make sure you are not accidentally using a Beta patch (Beta should be set to "None")
  • "Mod Installer" ( Zote) and Mod Installer 2 are made for version 1.4.3.2, and should no longer be used. If you watched or read something that said to use these, then it is outdated information.
  • There aren't installers for other patches, like 1.2.2.1. If you are looking for speedrunning mod help, then type ?tag 1221 into chat for more information.

• Something didn't install correctly

  • Right-Click the installer, and select "Run as Administrator"
  • Ensure that the installer is not still in a .zip file (if you downloaded it as a .zip, then you'll need to Extract the files from it)
  • Make sure that you moved the Installer file(s) out of your Downloads folder

• Your game is cracked / pirated

  • Piracy is not supported in most communities for games, and discussing it is against Discord Community Guidelines. Mods are not considered compatible with pirated copies, and you will not get troubleshooting support in any of the main servers for them.
  • Modding is only supported on the official computer versions from Steam, GoG, or Xbox Games.

Once you extracted the zipped files - which you need to do, the zip is useless, you can delete it. The extracted file must be placed like in the pic in the bot's message

I'm not sure what you mean by "it just auto kicks me out traitor lords body" but if you really don't have any other mod than pale court and debug then you might have accidentally bound a key to something that causes this effect with debug, that being said it would be easier to help if you provided more info, as requested in https://discord.com/channels/283467363729408000/1090079233520451714, a video of the issue and a modlog in a new post in #1057825333841240104 would help with troubleshooting

Starting Pale Court

• Install it using Lumafly
• You must have ||All dreamers||
• You must have ||defeated a specific boss:|| ||White Defender||
• You must then find the location that connects each Knight to the world. You can watch the Launch Trailer if you want directions where to go.

Known problems with Pale Court

• MAKE SURE YOU ARE USING THE LATEST UPDATED VERSION
• AdditionalMaps, Randomizer 4, Extra MenuBackgrounds, EssenceAlways (and any mod that attempts to force Essence drops) aren't compatible, and will prevent you from being able to enter fights.
• Using a BenchWarp Deployed Bench in new areas will break the file
  • If you accidentally do this, then close the game, disable Benchwarp, then open the file again. Get off the bench you spawn at, and sit down again. Then save+quit, and you should be able to enable Benchwarp again.
  • Alternatively, you can open your user#.modded.json for that file, and edit "atDeployedBench": true, -> "atDeployedBench": false, . You can type ?tag savefiles for more information.
• HK Vocalized may prevent you from accessing fights
  • (This appears to not be consistently reproducible, but if you can't enter fights, then try disabling it)
• Skill Upgrades will prevent Charms from working correctly
• Hollow Point will not work if Pale Court is installed
• Any mod that adds new Charms may prevent Charms from working.

If you're having other issues, then please read #1090079233520451714 and create a #1057825333841240104 post with the requested info and any details. Be aware that Pale Court was not designed to be compatible with other mods, and you will usually need to choose between using either Pale Court or the other mod(s).

Hollow Knight Crashes upon opening after installing a mod ⚠️

This error can happen for a number of reasons. Read through all of the common reasons below to see which might apply to you.

• Your game patch doesn't match the installer you used

  • Modding is currently done on patch 1.5.78+, and this is what all current installers require. If you're on Steam, then make sure you are not accidentally using a Beta patch (Beta should be set to "None")

Additional note: Charm Crab is apparently a "game overhaul" mod, that modifies a lot of things in the game (I know it modifies charms, but I think it tweaks a few other things as well). It's meant to give a new experience to a fresh playthrough, but it notably conflicts with most mods other than plain Rando.

Though they are basically only meant for late game
