fwiw, it shouldn't take more than ~5-10 minutes to download, unless you have a pretty bad internet connection. If you do have spotty internet, then if it goes out for a minute, then the download will freeze, and you'll probably need to try again anyway.

Instead I started a game, and connected ingame (think I needed to manually intall HKMP mod too). It works now

How it works

HKMP puts a copy of each player into each other players world.
Enemies have separate health and will usually be in different places; Items/abilities must be collected separately; and Breakable objects must be broken by each player. Player attacks happen in each player's world, damaging any enemies/players it comes in contact with. A player is only hurt by the enemies in their own world. Editing save files

You can edit various values of save files. Below are different available methods.

• MoreSaves Mod | Install

• QoL mod | Install

• DebugMod | Install

Save Files

What do save files looks like?

• Each Hollow Knight save file is a user#.dat where # is the save slot for the file
• You can rename user3.dat to user1.dat to set it to your first save slot
• You can keep a copy of all of your save files by copy and pasting them into a different folder on your computer

Reverting Backups

• Automatic backups are called user#.dat.bak#, where the first # is the save slot, and the second # is the backup number. You will usually have your last three backups
• You restaore a backup by deleting the main file, and then removing the .bak# part of the backup version

Modded Saves

• A modded save may also have a user#.modded.json (and similarly named backup). This file and the user#.dat are part of the save

Where are the files?

• On windows, the default path for Save Files is:
  • %appdata%\..\LocalLow\Team Cherry\Hollow Knight\
  • You should just copy and paste that path directly into the File Explorer path bar at the top.
• For other operating systems (and Xbox Games), type ?tag saves into chat

Scarab vanishes / Scarab is Blank / Scarab cannot download ModLinks!

This happens when the installer is unable to connect to the internet properly.
This is commonly because one or more issues:

• The installer was left in a .zip or in the Download folder. (It's recommended to put it on your Desktop or on the same Harddrive as your game installation)
• The installer may need to be run as Administrator (Right-Click it, and select "Run as Administrator")
• The installer is being blocked by built-in security software, such as Windows Defender
• The installer is being blocked by third-party security software (Avast / Norton / MacAfee / etc)
  If you are not sure how to create Exceptions in your Security software for programs, then you can see this guide or you may need to google how to do it for the software that you use.

How it works

• Hollow Point doesn't work on new saves. Save and quit, then reload the save file.

Benchwarp does the same thing overall (you can even warp to any room by changing to DoorWarp mode in the settings, although you need to know the room names).
Fast Travel notably has a few bugs, so while it's fine for some things, it breaks after a longer play session, and it interferes with some text boxes for some reason.

How it works

HKMP puts a copy of each player into each other players world.
Enemies have separate health and will usually be in different places; Items/abilities must be collected separately; and Breakable objects must be broken by each player. Player attacks happen in each player's world, damaging any enemies/players it comes in contact with. A player is only hurt by the enemies in their own world. Although it depends on what you install and what you do with the mods there are always easy ways to fix your game if it starts having issues and mods aren't supposed to break the game, they are rather safe to use. To be extra careful it's recommended to backup your saves before modding, which is really fast to do, and to read the descriptions and readmes of the mods you install to know what to expect

• Use Scarab+ (it has additional support for this version that other installers currently don't have)

• Right-Click the Scarab.exe and select "Run as Administrator"

Do you mean that mods aren't loaded in the game, or that the game doesn't load at all? I recommend switching to the lumafly installer and using its "launch modded game" button, that should solve the issue if your problem is the former

you should give it a try, i just got my friend to buy the game and she has only played casual games like stardew valley and slime rancher and she was able to pick up a general sense of flow pretty quickly. Hollow knight is incredibly intuitive, and with a little patience literally anybody can beat the game

Save Files

What do save files looks like?

• Each Hollow Knight save file is a user#.dat where # is the save slot for the file
• You can rename user3.dat to user1.dat to set it to your first save slot
• You can keep a copy of all of your save files by copy and pasting them into a different folder on your computer

Reverting Backups

• Automatic backups are called user#.dat.bak#, where the first # is the save slot, and the second # is the backup number. You will usually have your last three backups
• You restaore a backup by deleting the main file, and then removing the .bak# part of the backup version

Modded Saves

• A modded save may also have a user#.modded.json (and similarly named backup). This file and the user#.dat are part of the save

Where are the files?

• On windows, the default path for Save Files is:
  • %appdata%\..\LocalLow\Team Cherry\Hollow Knight\
  • You should just copy and paste that path directly into the File Explorer path bar at the top.

You would need to also download the 1.4 version of any 1.5 boss you're using if you want both, assuming a 1.4 version exists. If it doesn't exist on 1.4, you can't use it.

Editing save files

You can edit various values of save files. Below are different available methods.

• MoreSaves Mod | Install

• QoL mod | Install

Windows won't let me open the Mod Installer

Installer vanishes after downloading / loads a blank screen

This is commonly because one or more issues:

• The installer may need to be run as Administrator (Right-Click it, and select "Run as Administrator")
• The installer is being blocked / removed by built-in security software, such as Windows Defender
• The installer is being blocked / removed by third-party security software (Avast / Norton / MacAfee / etc)
