Mods/Controller not working correctly on Steam Deck
Issue: Steam Deck installs the Windows version of HK, then runs it in proton. This would be fine except that you install Linux Scarab, which replaces the Assembly-Csharp with the Linux version, and then it doesn't like to work correctly on "Windows" anymore

Solution: Go to the HK Library page, select Properties -> Compatibility, check "Force the use of a specific steam play compatibility tool", and select "Steam Linux Runtime" (Note: not the sniper or soldier versions)

This will reinstall the Linux version of the game, and move some files around, so you'll need to select "Change Paths" in Scarab and change it to the new install path, then reinstall your mods. After this, everything should be working.

A lot of info has been centralised here but the main tutorial is on youtube and the main installer is downloaded from a website, so if you send them the links that are here they should be able to use them without being on discord. The only issues can come from skins as many of them have their download links referring to discord, but other than that everything should be fine

Don’t use modinstaller, it’s made for an older version of the game and will make your game crash. You need to install custom knight with scarab and install the skin in its "skins" folder

idk if i pit this here but i want opinions. im tryna make a shade skin for the knight but idk if i shoild manually recolor the nail over and over to be the shades nail color or keep it as the normal nail color

Those are just borders for how far you can go, they won't appear on the skin

Without screenshots, it's hard to give advice, but

• If it is the Red Square lines, then yeah, those are from the sprite rips, and you can just erase them from the Atlas at the end
• If it's a "glow" kinda of effect, then it could be the software that you're using. Photoshop notably doesn't export .pngs at the max 32bit by default, and the compressed version that it defaults to adds that effect iirc. In some cases, I've heard of people just re-exporting with a different program can fix that.

The red square lines shouldn't appear on the atlas at all if your sprites are positioned correctly before you pack. If they do, it's a sign you either copy pasted the border somewhere by mistake, or your sprite is not lined up correctly on the canvas.

Read its readme that you'll find by clicking the link in its description on scarab. Note that there might be a bug regarding nail binding, which requires you to reload your save after you enable it to get its effect applied despite the fact that that shouldn't be the case (and it isn't the case for the other bindings)

How to use Scarab in Microsoft Store
🔹 First enter the Xbox app and move your mouse over Hollow Knight on the left bar.
🔹 Click the three points then click "Manage".
🔹 Go to the "Files" tab and select "Browse...".
🔹 Click Hollow Knight then Content, click the path bar and copy it.
🔸Run Scarab as admin and when it asks you for the path paste what copied before.

Alternate Method:
🔹 Click on your profile then "Settings"
🔹 Go to "General" tab and select "CHANGE FOLDER"
🔹 Look for a folder where you want to install the game (Preferably inside a folder in your desktop).
🔸 Copy the path bar, then run Scarab as Administrator and when it asks you for the path, paste what copied before.

Scarab path folder needs to have Hollow Knight_Data folder inside

How to use Scarab in Microsoft Store
🔹 First enter the Xbox app and move your mouse over Hollow Knight on the left bar.
🔹 Click the three points then click "Manage".
🔹 Go to the "Files" tab and select "Browse...".
🔹 Click Hollow Knight then Content, click the path bar and copy it.
🔸Run Scarab as admin and when it asks you for the path paste what copied before.

Alternate Method:
🔹 Click on your profile then "Settings"
🔹 Go to "General" tab and select "CHANGE FOLDER"
🔹 Look for a folder where you want to install the game (Preferably inside a folder in your desktop).
🔸 Copy the path bar, then run Scarab as Administrator and when it asks you for the path, paste what copied before.

Scarab path folder needs to have Hollow Knight_Data folder inside

For the rest, the only things that won't appear again are the GlobalSettings.json of mods that you don't use anymore, but since there're only EasyMode and the Modding api if you keep playing easy mode they'll both come back
