if you're still wondering, ignoring some possible skips, generally speaking the early-game progression path is to get vengeful spirit in forgotten crossroads -> get dash in greenpath -> get something else for traversal in fungal wastes (which you may or may not have already found).
after that your path opens up a good bit, but before you get those three things it's hard to deviate from that path outside of maybe a detour to fog canyon from greenpath or saving enough money to get the lantern from sly and exploring some of the dark rooms in eastern forgotten crossroads.

once you get the thing in fungal wastes the game in general will feel a lot more open to you.

It unlocks an optional final boss similar to the Radiance, and defeating him in a sparring match (canonically, he holds back so he doesn’t completely eradicate Hornet from existence) will destroy all the silk and song that haunts Pharloom. The DLC also unlocks a fast-travel system similar to the Stags, where Hornet simply rides on Mister Mushroom’s back as he flies her to another area. My uncle is Ari Gibson and told me this, trust||
