Typically the main fields of my engineering school are HPC (high performance computing, so programming for data centers and things like that, it's almost midnight so my vocabulary is restricted), software engineering, and something that groups graphic programming, simulations and video games. There's definitely a lot of projects, usually small apps to create where we sometimes have to manage the designing part too, some practical exercices, and also some long lecture course to learn about what we'll do, too

There are several ways to do it (conventions lol), One way being quaternions, basically complex numbers but in 3D instead of 2D, with not 1 nor 2 but 3 imaginary parts. Do you need to manipulate "objects"? Are you making a website? Telling a computer to do stuff automatically? Do you need performance, or something convenient to code in that you can quickly modify?). So yeah, each situation will have some languages that fit better, but the answer is rarely unique. Also, once you understand the main principles of a category, that makes learning other languages from that category way easier. So that also means that you don't need to learn every possible language in existence, since you can adapt relatively easily to new situations if you can recognize a pattern you already know about

Yeah, they have completely different syntaxes and workflows, but both are object oriented, so the Object Oriented Programming (OOP) concepts apply to both of them. That being said, it’s normal when you start to code to not learn about paradigms such as OOP, and to start with the beginning. As a result you most likely used Python without classes or anything related - so without actually using OOP.
