mhm. But luckily every charm it synergizes with is bad anyway so it's not a real downside since you shouldn't realistically use them either. Thus ignoring the synergies dcrest doesn't have any downside. And yes I know it has a bad range and bad damage but with downside I mean something that's actively bad for you and worse than simply not equipping it. Thorns on the other hand first of all has the same small range that dcrest has so it doesn't do anything when hit by anything while the boss isn't right next to you. Additionally the damage is really bad. That already makes it not great however it actively harms you since it locks you in place after being hit. In that period of time you would've usually had iframes to get to a safe spot, attack the enemy or heal. With thorns it only leaves you with a fraction of the iframes though. Also you might still say it's "free damage" just like dcrest however you can literally deal more damage with your nail and the iframes after getting hit in the time that thorns usually activates.

It's either the thorns attack or the nail swing. For dcrest it's additional damage. You can nail swing while dcrest is passively also dealing damage. It's literally free additional damage, no matter how small it is, while thorns is an attack that happens instead of you being able to hit
