I think that "Ghost" is a good way to explain it yeah. The eggs were indeed corrupted. But basically it's almost like being born in a statement somewhere between life/death. Like a ghoul.

I think that's depending on the ending to be honest. Because arguably I'd say if the Knight followed what was 'ordered' than they would be pure. I'd argue attachment to Hornet would be what would make him impure
