Youre looping over each character in the string, if the current character equals the current guess, youre replacing the element in that position with your guess

Not sure if there's any real performance difference using strings tho, id assume they're implemented as something comparable to a char array anyway

Whats written in alps code can also be expressed as
for element in list:
do something
like print(element)
Meaning you go through the list step by step, and every step, the "element" variable gets initialized with the current element from the list
