you need to hit him to get soul to cast spells, and so you do more damage then

you're probably looking at roughly ten castings of shade soul with shaman stone to kill grimm which is 30 hits and the damage increase on the nail sliiiightly beats out the additional health so if your goal is to absolutely maximize spell use it'll come out to about the same number of castings

in a weird way you might fall behind a bit if you use spell twister and use that strategy but it's not going to be substantially harder

and that's only with shade soul, if you can ddark him it'll go even faster
