the way it works is that doom 1's campaign is very solid and focused, but has a limited enemy variety and no super shotgun.
doom 2 has way more enemy types and a super shotgun, as well as the best damn mods you'll find. unfortunately, the base campaign in doom 2 is all over the place in terms of quality and is not focused at all

there's a random environment event chart in DnD with 10000 outcomes and if you roll a 1 the sun literally explodes and you have to go from there

you can also get tram pass in deepnest way before doing other areas, then get Dnail

thought going with dive only makes the dark room a bit of a pain but it's doable

You can do the shade skip up to resting grounds to get the dream nail or to get to city of tears, I don't know if there's any other way
