i actually unironically got really into watching tarantula care videos during the last bout of ye ol seasonal depression and it's kind of neat all the different things spiders use silk for. like, whenever most tarantulas molt, they lay out this mattress of silk on the ground to lie on, and the silk gives them a place that's soft and clean to do the molting process on. then they just roll over onto their backs onto the silk bedding and lie there until molting starts, it's pretty whacky looking

cut content is a bit different in that you can tell it was something, at some point, a part of the TC's creative vision, and even if discarded was part of the process that added up to what we finally got. like, the hollow knight's cut dream nail dialogue as pure vessel is fascinating, and even if it's not 'canon' it's meaningful and interesting enough that i've personally absorbed it into my overall impression of thk's story

Gotta disagree with that, canon is the basis of a story, if a canon is consisten and good it can enhance a story, otherwise obviously people are going to elaborate headcanon to fill certain gaps but canon is the basis. Otherwise we get the dreaded bad takes that honestly are so detrimental to the feeling and complexity of the original work that can give conniptions. If there is a widespread Headcanon in which states that the Radiance was just an innocent UWU did nothing wrong character while the Pale King was an evil twirling moustache bad guy that ate puppies rather than a complex conflict with tints of gray I would disagree with that headcanon.

there are events that did or didn't happen in the game itself, in the same way a painting does or doesn't have certain colors in it, or does or doesn't have certain figures in it. but there's no reason cut content, like, say the pure vessel's dream nail dialogue, or interpretations based on things that are only suggested in the game, can't inform the way you feel about the game and story, or the ultimate impression it left on you. like the cut dream nail dialogue, it generally doesn't directly contradict the actual events and world, and it's interesting to see team cherry's thought process in building the final version of the story they settled on

The game isn’t just a painting though. Paintings don’t have dialogue to detail the specifics or whatever story it’s trying to represent. As for cut content, there is a very good reason why it can’t be accounted for in lore discussion. When an idea is scrapped, it is usually because it no longer fits with the story that the writers want to tell.

like, the pure vessel repeating the pale king's mantra to itself in the black egg, over and over, in the dark, is an incredibly striking image that says a lot and has a lot of implications on its own. it's interesting, it gives you a new perspective to look at the rest of the story, it's extra context to put some of the white lady's dialogue under, and it's not irreconcilable from anything that's already in the game

It was a peaceful day in Axz, Axz a bustling city filled with historic landmarks, delicious foods, and most importantly, very rich. Drowned however were very broke, living not that far from Axz they knew what must've been done, Drowned were usually neutral, they really didn't want to involve into fights. They had one thing though that nobody else had. Tridents. They ambushed the Axolotls destroying and ripping apart every little thing they could get their grubby little hands on. The axolotls fought back as hard as they could, but Most Axolotls fled further out into the city over, they eventually sent reinforcements to take care, but unfortunately it was a hit and run. Few Drowned were found if not any, Drowned didnt give them the slightest chance to give the axolotls any time to regroup and rebuild the destroyed city, they quickly returned and attacked. Destroying everything once more, before they were lured into a trap by and undercover Axolotls and were murdered viciously. As the axoltls returned to they're once safe haven it wasn't inhabital any more. Most fled and some perished, and for the last time they said goodbye to Axz.!
