im not against permadeath mode but like i didnt find it fun in HK because doing the early section felt tedious with how paced the movement upgrades are, and for me its a case of wanting something MORE than just permadeath

i think ledge climb while not revolutionary of a movement helps a lot with early game feel because it feels like youre actually interacting with the environments

like a super simple example would be like, what if theres this one 3d 1st person game that only gave you sprint and jump, its not as "interactable" with how simple it is

vs to like, adding animations like ledge climbing which adds to the feel of the movement

like being able to interact with the environment with said abilities feels like youre actively something, whereas HK early game is very simple barred from pogoing

I already much prefer the short dash+sprint, rather than HK's static dash

The various moves you can combo out of other moves (sprint jump, ledge cancel, sprint lunge) are things that I really love, coming from Monster Hunter

yeah chaining movements is what im looking forward to
ill mention Dying Light again where i always try to get enough height when im climbing a wall just so it wont proc the long ass animation of you pulling yourself up and you cant do any inputs for the duration

whereas if you jump just enough height, youll trigger the "light" version where youll just kick and reach your foot on top of it, and it makes the movement chain flow together better without a 2-3 second long animation stopping you from doing anything

mantling leddges is 50/50 because its good imersive movement, until it isnt. you find a platform of some kind that throughout the game isnt grabable for a good reason, like elevator edge, but it ruins it

MLG - In 2015, MLG held an event with Melee, and later with Smash 4. According to my source, MLG did not continue working with Smash Melee after MLG Anaheim in 2015 because Nintendo wanted to charge a $50k licensing fee per event, over double the asking rate for Street Fighter IV, a much more modern game at the time. This practice to me seems like a way to effectively shut down Melee at MLG without directly preventing them from running it. I would also assume that this fee would be charged, and no real support would be provided by Nintendo, as has been been the case with some of our grassroots events.
