i think that 'exhaustion from playing too long that makes you less excited to finish the game' is always a tricky thing to balance in big exploratory games, but having an area that's telegraphed from the very beginning can be a good way to at least make it clear there's something to work towards, and to give something more to look forward to than one last boss

honestly, the war for rayuba oct was a HUGE huge huge help actually shoving me into doing comics. having a deadline and an opponent you're basically working with puts a little bit of pressure to get it done (while also ultimately not being that big a deal if you don't finish), while also locking you into a shorter timeframe where you can't start some kind of long-form epic

Oh and while comics feel quite bound to the artists style (normally), I feel like with something like a webtoon I have the freedom to just sort of change things up

Some of it’s development stretches all the way back to the Hollow Knight Kickstarter. It started as an additional campaign which was a stretch goal. The HK Kickstarter was announced in November of 2014 I believe. It was announced to be its own game on February 14, 2019. So at its shortest you could say it’s been in development for 2 years and 2 months. At its longest it’s been over 6 years.
