Hallownest is a kingdom littered with faded stories. UNN is entering a deep slumber, the nightmare heart is a vulture circling the corpse (while also being frail), the white lady is sealing herself away, the immortal pale king has died with his kingdom and vanished with his palace, the ancient civilization was greater than all of these gods and tribes, and is now long gone.

The most prominent and significant godlike entities in hollow knight are the pale king, the radiance, and void. These things all meet together - \with THK_. The titular character.

PK and the radiance are both clinging to the past. The radiance isn’t out for revenge out of anger, her position as a dream entity means she’s a living idea. Being forgotten is the equivalent of death, and if she can’t be worshipped then she’ll be a pandemic.

PK is in a very similar situation, his concern isn’t the health of his people, it’s the immortality of his legacy. “No cost too great” is explicitly a viable mantra for BOTH pk and the radiance.
The worst game endings are BOTH about sustaining the cycle- preserving the already rotting corpse.
By breaking stasis, you earn a more poignant or uncertain future, but also the chance at something new.
No curse of the old king, no plague of the forgotten god, who knows what happens to hallownest next.
