It's really hard to specify exactly how to survive better, but my advice would be to use their binds at the right times (ex: right as they finish their attack or they pop out from somewhere)

Also yes while it isn't IMPOSSIBLE, beast crest is quite bad for exploration

Also for witch crest, use multibinder and injector band, makes it way more valuable for both survival and damage
