Yeah, the gauntlet isn't that bad. They even give you a shortcut that allows you to skip the first 3 rooms so you can't really be that angry at it and the final room and boss room are pretty manageable.
I would actually advise doing Crustking as the first heart boss because he is much easier than Karm

Yeah, not being to mid air bind is a huge weakness. It basically means you can't use it for every encounter because some encounters really don't want you to be on the floor.
