Sometimes I see people say that areas in Hollow Knight felt more distinct, or areas in Silksong feel too much the same and I really don't understand it. I feel like areas in Silksong are just as distinct as in HK if not moreso. There are some places in Silksong that certainly do feel similar like Hunter's March and Far Fields, except Hunter's March is less vertical and doesn't have lava. I think the ones that feel the most similar are High Halls and Choral Chambers.
Even the "green areas" which are most often the target of this criticism for example Moss Grotto and Verdania are very distinct in their own ways, or the Act 3 section of Far Fields where you find Karmelita and Gurr and the Sprintmaster challenge.
Moss Grotto does not feel like the Marrow does not feel like Deep Docks does not feel like Hunter's March/Far Fields does not feel like Greymoor does not feel like Bellhart does not feel like Shellwood does not feel like Blasted Steps/Sands of Karak does not feel like Choral Chambers/High Halls does not feel like Cogwork Core does not feel like Whispering Vaults does not feel like Bilewater does not feel like The Slab does not feel like Mount Fay does not feel like Sinner's Road does not feel like Wisp Thicket does not feel like Underworks does not feel like Cradle.
TLDR; like 90% of this game's areas feel distinct from one another.
