Which crest is very situation/enemy dependent, along with personal pref. Reaper's big swings are nice for playing safe, but has more windup, swings slower overall. Witch is wild, very silk focused.

• I've been using Wanderer a ton for fast swings, though it's rough against enemies with small windows to attack.
• Hunter gets better with practice, very dueling style. Rewards being careful, fits medium-paced fighting.

I finally finished the game with the true ending, and I have to say: the fact that everything deals double damage, combined with several other questionable difficulty choices, really taints what could otherwise have been a near-perfect experience.

• You now need 8 mask shards for a single extra point of HP, since only every second mask effectively makes you one hit tankier. Thus, the maximum HP is capped at 5—exactly the same as at the start of the original Hollow Knight.
• Enemies have clear input-reading and overly evasive behavior, turning normal encounters into constant frustration. This is made worse by the frequent, often punishing runbacks before difficult bosses.
• Your damage output doesn’t compensate for the lack of tankiness. Even with a fully upgraded nail and tools, boss fights drag on far too long, especially in the endgame where nearly every encounter feels like a death march.
• Some bosses are frustrating by design. For example, the ||Forge Brothers|| and the ||Scarsinger|| either summon additional enemies mid-fight, overwhelming you, or are preceded by long gauntlets of tough foes with huge runbacks. These seem designed to wear the player down before granting another attempt at already difficult fights.

My experience swung wildly between “this could be game of the year” and “this is the most frustrating gaming experience I’ve had all year.” In my opinion, the double-damage mechanic doesn’t need to be removed entirely but should be opt in or heavily toned down, reserved only for special boss attacks. That way, you’d still feel properly punished for mistakes without being trapped in hit combos where a boss can erase six HP in seconds.

Another major issue is the lack of build variety. In Hollow Knight, charms let you customize your playstyle in meaningful ways. In Silksong, this freedom is gone—you pick your tools, and beyond that it’s basically “evade or die.” It's still a beyond amazing game but this just tainted the experience for me.

To get there, you need to go through the secret passage in Whispering Vaults that leads to Bilewater, but go up instead of down. At the top you'll meet them, Garmond will ask to duel, it's super easy, and after beating him he'll assist with that arena||
