That's what I mean in hollow knight you literally have a spell that does massive damage that gives you invincibility and a button LITERALLY DEDICATED TO IT. You don't have to learn a lot of concrete attack patterns you can just wing almost every fight unless you get into very endgame stuff. People aren't used to playing careful. If you stop to take advantage of the better movement and learn instead of meatgrind then the game becomes a lot easier

i've found it to be far less tuned and balanced than the knights movement. then again, i also think it may have been overcomplicated slightly. the knight feels satisfying to control because you've been given the bare minimum, all the basic abilities you expect from a platformer, and a sword (i barely ever use spells). the fact you are able to do so much with so little makes the challenge focused on beating something that has so many more options than you do. it makes it feel like you're climbing an impossible mountain. hornet does in fact have MUCH more variety of movement avaliable to her, however, what it means is 1, the bosses have to be harder, sure, fair enough but also 2, they have to change the inherent challenge of the boss. it is no longer a battle of simplicity vs complexity, it's just complexity vs complexity. it actually makes sense in a way. hornet was a hk boss, and had a variety of movement patterns. to me, the whole game feels like you playing as a boss against other bosses, but you have all the limitations of a boss with that. you get stuck in attacks, transitions, movements, you're not as adaptable, etc. it's not inherently bad, but i just find it to be less satisfying

What helped me a lot was using the Reaper crest, the slower attack speed helped me focus. Similar to the first fight, jumping over her and pogoing off of her always works incredibly well. Other than that I don’t really know

Another complaint is that so many benches cost money to use, like why? Most egregious one is the boss in Blasted Steps, they expect you to have that bench available for it, but if you don’t have the money, and the shield guys don’t give a ton which leaves room for error and losing it all, so you can potentially have the longest run back ever to a boss
