I think a lot of that overlap has come from a post hollow knight era though, and I’m gonna put this all on one message so it can’t be misconstrued, but hollow knight borrows a lot from soulslike games absolutely to it’s improvement and not detriment. It doesn’t have to be a strict metroidvania to still have elements of a Metroidvania and make it work great, and I honestly think silksong would be taking a step back if it became more like a classic Metroid metroidvania (aka no customization, all progress is made through movement tools and bosses are much simpler.) Again, none of this really matters I just think it’s a neat design descision that has clearly leaked into a lot of other metroidvanias since hk was released
