YAY, okay so basically I like to perceive that hollowknight is in a similar vein to TS eliot, in the sense that theres a strong theme of fragmentation and a strong emphasis on the idea that its a pastiche, (a pastiche is a form of media that heavily references others to create its own meaning, i see this in hollowknight in the sense that the knight draws from the world around themselves to create a sense of purpose). whilst the initial lore is that the pale kind created the vessels as a means of being completely hollow, i believe that TC was trying to facilitate the idea that you can never be free of what it means to be "human", as sartre examines that the value of human life comes from a sense of purpose. this is contradicted by the pale kings notions of mistreatment, he can just lock the vessels away in a room because "they dont have feelings", however TC aims to subvert this through the will of the knight, as his drive, his motivation to cure the kingdom of infection is accompanied by glimpses of authenticity, for example the flower quests, and the freeing of the grubs, all these personal behaviours allow for audiences to percieve a sence of "personality" within the knight despite his initial depiction as hollow, his drive comes from the world around him, and his experiences shape them as individuals, the most obvious example is the nail arts being taught to the knight. I link this message of hollowknight to TS eliot because i find that eliot also resonated with this sense of purposelessness, but ended up finding it through religious rebirth (his enviroment), which is very similar to hollowknight, i can go into more detail about the juxtaposition of the pale kind and sartre if you like but im lowk running out of word counts
