Personally I liked the idea of his own success being what destroys him. Him being so driven by one goal that he doesn't know what to do with himself after. I can see and agree with the force of nature aspect, but I don't think that's the whole story. He calls himself "the last scholar of Golb" and whatnot. He has a lot of really good monologues throughout the show. He seemed more like someone trying to live out his role. Not just an unsentient thing. Once he completed his task he had nothing. We even sort of see that when he is trapped in Prismo's time room for a while.
