The problem is that for something that should be "not even 1/20 th of the game's progression" it sure is op as hell. I'm not a minecraft speedrunner and you can easily get 2 packs of iron in like 40 minutes without even realizing. So in in less than an hour you went from punching trees to tanking almost every normal mob. And I didn't even mention the fact you can go to the nether to get blaze rods and since you need that for eyes of ender you could say the progression has gone insanely fastby then. I hope that makes sense.

thing about minecraft is that it's "supposed" to be your own survival world you can make whatever you want in and spend as much time freely in it.
at a certain point Mojang took the game in an odd direction and have been trying to add psuedo-quest stuff and "goals" that never really amount to anything because they do not want to restrict the core sandbox theme of the game (which is important to keep).
It feels weird that some things are just super easy with no payoff in minecraft because mojang has relented from adding any kind of payoff short of the text after beating the ender dragon... and even then its not much

I love that copper is getting more uses, but honestly copper armor isn't a great addition imo
Iron is already insanely easy to get, maybe if copper had some extra gimmick it could justify using it instead of iron, but as of right now its only slightly more useful than chainmail in terms of armor sets
Maybe if it got stronger as it eroded (wouldn't make sense from a realism point of view, I don't think) or had some other gimmick to do with electricity it could be cool
