I think complaining about the rod drop chance is emblematic of what is in my opinion a problem with a lot of terraria mindsets. People seem to think you choose strategy and then grind for rng to accomplish strategy but the game is way more fun when you let the game's rng dictate what strategy you play based on what drops

To “defeat” them, all you need to do is reduce their health to around 75%, at which point a cutscene will play and the story will continue as normal.
