Fuel Stream Diffuser is pretty much a clean, since the "downside" decreases your ammo spent at the cost of fire power, but you can offset it pretty heavily with heat radiance, which is now more cost effective because you use less ammo

The other ones I'm most familiar with are Overdrive Booster for engi's laser. It's the same thing, you have to choose when you use it. Inferno is pretty much clean, because it unintentionally does more damage than base, you just need to deal with the weaker armour break. RJ compound is counteracted very strongly by fire chip damage, while still giving you tons of ammo to work with

The fact that RJ gives you less direct damage actually makes it even easier to set large crowds on fire

I don't feel like flooding chat so instead I'm going to edit this message with explanations for why they're all so good.

Roll Control piggybacks off Breach Cutter's already insane DPS, but massively improves the versatility of the weapon. The after fire control can let you hit more enemies on curved walls, and the roll is very very strong against large groups of enemies. Engineer usually runs a strong single target weapon in primary, so having an all purpose crowd killing cutter is very strong. You use triple split line for more consistent damage, or plasma trail if you're struggling with swarmers, jellies etc.

Ultramagnetic Coils does pretty much the same thing Roll Control does. The Coilgun is already insanely strong, because it had a mod that can proc fear on all surrounding enemies. In theory, if you could continuously fire the coilgun, you could keep scaring enemies and prevent you and your team from getting attacked by most enemies. Ranged enemies are weakly affected, and oppressors cannot be scared. Ultramagnetic coils lets you do exactly that. You can keep spamming your coilgun to clear out swarms, and keep scaring enemies to keep yourself safe. If you combine it with Gunner's shield you can pretty effortlessly stay alive in crazy swarms.

Special powder is a tacky movement option that most new players think is awesome, but then move away from when they learn about the OCs that do more damage, but come back to when they're good at the game again. You can abuse special powder really really hard. It doesn't just allow you to complete objectives quicker, but outrun entire swarms. The scout can keep themselves safe so long as they have ammo. Combine it with a strong weapon that functions at long range for highest efficiency (most of scouts primaries)

Patterns or reason don't really mean a lot when you have the uncertainty of the real world. there are millions of reasons team cherry could or could not release silksong in the next few months and chances are we know very few of the factors
