most mmos are victim to an overwhelming amount of UI elements yeah

in ff14 at least which is the only one i personally play, you learn to tune out all the things that don't actually matter

and they give you complete control over UI customization so you can just get rid of a bunch of stuff you don't use

or change its size to be less obtrusive

ff14 in the first place is relatively tame with its UI elements compared to other mmos though, at least when you're out in the overworld

how it looks when you're in dungeons or raids when UI elements related to your party come into play that's when it can get to comical levels of your screen being crammed with shit

cooldowns are a big part of how action rotations go in this game so being able to see when something is off cooldown is essential

plus a lot of jobs have so many fucking actions by the end of their progression at the current max level that it would be very hard to just commit it all to memory

you'd have to be REALLY no-lifing ff14 and only playing one singular job for muscle memory to kick in to the point where you no longer need to see your hotbars to know all the info you need to know during a raid or dungeon
