also honestly i feel like its less about the breath of content but also depth

its not a case of "oh theyre probably adding more areas" but more in terms of fleshing them out

adding new storylines, gameplay mechanics etc that can have several impact as they start implementing new features etc
like Josh Sawyer during the creation of Pillars 2 said one of the hardest moments is once you hit end the last stretch of the game, compare that to the first few parts, and then realize how shit the early content is compared to the late game ones due to accrued experience

Yeah that makes sense. There would be no reason to add additional stuff if you know that it could be included in a dlc later down the line. But fleshing the game out would not really work in dlc form.

yeah, and one big advantage is compared to releasing it in DLC format is you have an easier time fleshing out content AND integrating it that it works in the story sense

if you releasing something in post release then it becomes a game of "ok what should and shouldnt we touch"

but if its done prior to release then you can literally still change a lot of stuff and adjust things if necessary

its one of the main criticisms in some of HK's DLC is they can feel somewhat narratively disjoint from the main game

which is why im in the camp that Silksong on 1.0 release will be closer to Hollow Knight's 1.5v release in terms of content, at the cost of not having any DLC
