to me roguelikes are the games that are similar to those grid based "Rogue" games. Perma death, turn based moving/combat, grid based, precoedurely generated map, each run is completely new. Though some call those 'traditional roguelikes'

The main difference between them is roguelikes have a complete fresh start each new run, while roguelites have some sort of meta progression (some power up, skill, items, upgrades) that carry between runs

not to ofc reflect this 1:1 with the state of Silksong but mostly on the watchouts i hope (and afaik they do adhere to, given as per Graig theyve ignored some of his opinions on what to do/not to do etc) TC takes note of

essentially getting tunnel versioned on those limited testers vs to understanding what the wide variety of your playerbase is

its one of the things i just wanted to raise cuz there are inherently biased sections in the fandom who actively wishes Silksong should even be harder when you already have tons of casual players pushing the sweat of their brow even with the base game

though TC already acknowleged the difficulty during the Edge mag interview, its still a pretty interesting topic

also Josh makes another point regarding how the longer you keep testing, its gonna start warping your perception on the difficulty/writing. I think a perfect anecdote of this is this FPS a couple of years back that basically 100% adhered to the playtester's whim. Then when they said "yeah this is good now", on release it was dead on the water because the barrier of entry was so fucking high/gameplay wasnt as good for the majority as much as the PT thought it was

and following this example, hardcore players who may push for a more challenging game are likely to be louder/more prominent in the community spaces than any casual player would be about the issue of difficulty

so even looking at what the wider playerbase wants instead of just the few playtesters you have, bias is still present
