I think its a mix of that but also the fact that ||he's meant to be kind of weak lore wise. The infection has ravaged his body and he's weak from trying to hold it back. It's not meant to be hard persay, but its an amazing crescendo for a first playthrough, especially when you realize why he starts stabbing himself||

i only like 16% understand the example but i think ic. my issue with staggers is they halt the current interaction and replace it by a break thats felt even if youre like on radiant, since theres nothing really going on. for a weird example, one thing i like about the modded boss pale prince is that although the fight is way longer and therefore necessitates more consistency as a baseline, it still feels more frantic since its action non stop.
issue is, that in hk it completely breaks the fight since you cant heal at all like its no wonder tc never did that
