Honestly like I loved that it always felt like there was something to do!! If I progressed a lot and unlocked a new ability then suddenly I could take three new paths that I couldn’t before.

and one point House instructed me to go do this and most of the time in other RPGs its either

1. your character insist he'll do it asap
2. the person requesting it will shoot down any notions of delaying it, ie "i cant do this right now" "dont be naive, this is incredibly important, dont delay any further, well meet you up on AREA X, be there" (nothing happens if you dont do it immediately. AFAIK Skyrim is notorious about this)

but then I outright told House the "nah man, i gotta do my own things" dialogue option so I could do the side quest and i was surprised when he responded with "Fine, considering youve already accomplished the foundation for my victory. Consider this, leniency as a 'vacation leave' from your employer"

several bosses gets trivialized with shade dash, it wouldve been a different story if HK was designed to have iframes from the ground up so that almost every boss can be designed around it

its also why the end game bosses are so well made because theyre already expecting a certain ability baseline from the player, and they have attacks to incorporate around those

and HK kinda already hit a certain limit with what the movement system can offer

iterating that to Silksong and learning what worked and didnt is the next step

i think its possible to have a middle ground with dodging and iframes, hk does that excellently and that getting iframes isnt exactly super duper easy, or cant be mercilessly abused

ddark needs soul, and it has start lag. shade cloak has a reset timer

though some bosses like elder hu get the short end of the stick with their gimick not being designed around iframes

yeah i agree, which is why i think Hornet's parry ability taking silk and only proccing if you DO get hit is a good middle ground

ddark is a bit too strong but its on a right framework imo, just needed to be less spammable

ddark issue is that its so easy to cast and you get tons of damage out of it, whereas parry has to intentionally be used for an upcoming attack at the cost of some resource, but at the same thing spamming it wont work cuz youre standing there

its only spammable if you accumulate soul which means you're not spamming it for a while unless you're some freak who brings kingsoul into battle

ddark's balance is the fact it uses soul, but even then it is without a doubt the most powerful of the spells

they know that healing kinda breaks the flow when it came to HK's end game bosses

so now that healing in Silksong becomes a superfluous part of the fight, they can pace bosses better

without needing to add the obvious "oh im fucking staggered, its your chance for a bathroom bre- i mean to heal" signals

iirc the edge magazine literally states this lmao, the entire "so we dont need to add these obvious 'ok you can heal' now sections which breaks the pacing of the fight"

the bosses seem to stagger not that long, probably because you heal faster so a brief pause and going back into combat keeps the flow of it

heal window identification becomes a very very minor part of it because its just telegraphed by staggers

I swear healing builds become unviable late game unless you have like Baldur shell and Grubsong (that’s actually what I used to beat the Traitor Lord)

but for the majority, it feels like trying to squeeze healing mid fight is more of an opportunity and hoping the next attack doesnt overlap into you just getting hit

honestly in a balance scheme its hard to not have those outliers where anything thats efficient WILL be the meta

the problem with HK is that the other charms were so fucking good majority wont really bother swapping out of them

for Silksong, its impossible to balance all tools equally, but the important part is either theyre niche or theyre fun

yeah its a singleplayer game i dont need every tool to be exactly as strong as each other but just having some okay equipment that aren't as good as the best ones but encourage a different playstyle would be cool. hollow knight had like what, minions that do like 1 DPS, fart coming out of your body to slowly kill the boss?

theres another spectrum of balance in a game i like and its Insurgency Sandtorm
sure theres guns that are better cuz either theyre 1. cheaper 2. cost effective 3. better ROF and handling etc
but in the grand scheme theres no balancing issue because every gun takes 1-2 shots to kill you anyway 🥴

so 80% of players just pick the gun they think is cool because efficiency isnt really an issue

(theres a certain percentage of players that even takes the pure no attachment M4/AKs or the Mosin just because its authentic and cool to them)

yeah yeah, in the end it all boils down to player expression, and as long as the player isnt struggling to beat stuff with their preferred crest/tools, then it shouldnt be an issue

that being said, tools i think is going to be purely situational so for most part, youre expected to swap depending on the situation
but Crest should be in "everything is viable" camp, and Leth i think already mentioned theyre more like playstyle changes rather than upgrades

healing remains the most busted mechanic in regards to sheer potential all the way up to before radiant, but bosses are designed such that when you become familiar with them enough to dodge their attacks reliably and thus find windows, youll already be most of the way there

While I am on the side of letting TC take their time and make the game as good as can be, communication with fanbases and/or supporters/backers should be mandatory, even if it's not news that's directly related to the game. A simple "we're working on it" every now and then would do but this complete unending silence TC has is unacceptable.
