you know in Dark Souls 2, theres numerous occassions of allowing you to perform optional tasks which directly changes the fight, like for example, that gorgon lady has a stupid poisonous arena that you can neutralize by setting the windmill no fire, ofc theres little indication that you could do this (and afaik the game only drops like, 1-2 hints about it) but nontheless it removes 70% of the difficulty in that fight

that being said, it doesnt always need to be a subtle easy mode, some games intentionally make the fight almost nigh difficult unless you do this optional objective like its part of a puzzle

granted Watcher chandeliers is more akin to the variant of simply reducing difficulty/fight length, you can still fight all 6 watchers like its intended

ER does often encourage the opposite, I thought - like, not just throwing yourself at that same brick wall of difficulty and instead going around, finding new/better stuff, leveling up etc.
