heres how i think silksong will go: It starts of after right after the godhome ending (the one where the knight becomes the Shade Lord and starts consuming Hallownest in void) when hornet engages the no longer infected hollow knight. The fight is a cutscene, but after the void reaches the crossroads hornet flees. The hollow knight let’s itself be consumed by the void and bolsters it’s power even more. Hornet manages to escape crossroads and ends up in dirtmouth where all the villagers are hiding in sly’s basement ( Elderbug, sly, iselda and cornifer), besides zote. After feeling Hallownest being consumed, zote stands outside the entrance to crossroads and challenges the void after hornet leaps out. Zote instantly gets destroyed by Shade Lord and Hornet attacks. This is the combat tutorial. After a while of fighting, hornet gets hit by a huge swipe of its tentacles and gets send flying. She lands in a distant land and gets captured by mysterious bugs, but she manages to escape (the scene from the trailer). It turns out she is in Pharloom (the place where silksong takes place) and she must escape. Pharloom is another kingdom ruled by a Wyrm just like Hallownest, but this kingdom is thriving. Pharloom was originally at was with Hallownest, and was defeated in the battle of the blackwyrm (mentioned in the White defender journal entry). By the end of the game, hornet comes back to Hallownest and fights Shade Lord one last time. Eventually, the shade lord takes the form of the Knight, but fully grown (just like Pure Vessel). So hornet fights him with all the upgrades she has found in Pharloom, while the Knight has all his spells and nail arts. The game ends with Hornet defeating Shade Lord and going back to Pharloom to defeat the king there.

like for the Knight, it was a defining moment of finally laying this kingdom to rest

but external kingdoms, they dont fucking care, hell theyre not even aware if Hallownest even exists because they have their own problems

for me that type of framing kinda makes the worldbuilding better because having everything boil down to being related to Hallownest feels like a copout
